This kid will totally mess you up in Guitar Hero III

Oh man, losing to a kid at anything is pretty darn embarrassing, But, to see a kid absolutely master the ridiculously-difficult "Through the Fire and Flames" by DragonForce is like the best and worst thing we've ever seen. It's great because, well ... damn does that kid have game. But, it's bad because we're not sure we could ever do something so awesome in all of our life. The kid scored a frickin' 95% for crying out loud.

We'll tell you what, though. If this kid ever tries drugs, he's doomed.

Hey everyone.

How does the kid start off playing with 2 hands on just the buttons, don't you need to hit every note with what you call?? middle button where the strings meant to be?

Wondering how the hell you do that.

Am I just imagining that this kid is playing the notes before they are actually supposed to be played, as if the video is horribly off sync from the audio, or is Guitar Hero III that lenient in its scoring?

I'm fairly convinced children are naturally better at rythm games like this if their hands are big enough for the controller and strong enough for the rapid button presses.

When you see his fretting hands play, its bizaare. He moves his hands in a totally different way from most other adult players. His fingers just flail wildly wherever needed. It looks less like he's predetermined the upcoming fingering pattern as he see's it and more like his hands just move to the next button as fast as possible. I really think its more a case of instinctive reaction for kids and less of a memory and rhythm keeping game.

Whenever i've introduced new people to the game, its odd how easily the children pick the game up, even faster and better than 18 year old hardcore pc and console gamers.

That or this child has slowly evolved into a emotionless robot that does nothing but twitch one of his fingers when he see's a specific colour.

Probably the latter.

I can't find the specific video I'm thinking of, but there are several videos of him playing on Expert, one of which Joystiq linked to in January. He's doing Psychobilly Freakout in that one.

Being an actual guitarist, I could easily do expert on gh3 after a week or two (not having played gh before), but I still can't figure out this. I never thought of using both hands for the crazy hammer-ons and pull offs for the intro, so I'll give that a shot and maybe I can do it. This little kid is crazy. Lol too bad you can't break out huge solos and only strum once or twice, like in gh, on real guitar. I am currently working on beating the Performance Mode cheat (where there is no fret board to tell you the notes) and Precision Mode.

Being an actual guitarist does not determine you skill in a rhythm-based game, like Guitar Hero. Having previous rhythm game experience will help you a lot more than being able to play the guitar. Anyone who has played DDR, Guitar Hero, etc can tell you that.

Well, I do have DDR, but I don't play it much and I'm not all that good at it. But music theory sure does help keep a beat in your head when playing gh, and music has rhythm and rhythm changes, so why wouldn't actual music help? Most people can't stretch to the orange note, and its very easy for me to have my index finger on green and middle finger on orange, but I've found it much more efficient (usually) to just switch my hand position up a fret, like I would be very used to doing on real guitar. One more thing, please: I don't want to sound like I'm fighting or anything. I really don't want a flame war just over whether real guitar playing helps fake guitar playing.

I play both drums and guitar and I think (although there's no scientific basis for this...) that drumming has helped me more in guitar hero than guitar playing. With the exception of the ridiculous solos, I could play this song without a great deal of hassle on a guitar, but it still escapes me on the game.

As for rhythm, yeah it's important -- like I said, drumming seems to have helped me -- but GH is lenient and it's really more about memorizing than being rhythmically accurate. I think I was better trained for the game by memorizing F-Zero tracks than playing an instrument :D
