Wild Earth: African Safari is like Regular Animal Snap

Majesco has announced another Wii game: Wild Earth: African Safari. Based on (or more likely, ported from) a PC title called Safari Photo Africa: Wild Earth, the game takes you through the Serengeti National Park as you attempt to photograph over 30 African animals. The Wii version includes a multiplayer mode which designates one player as the driver and up to three others as photographers. Of course, being a Wii game, a hilarious minigame has been added as well, which allows you to play from the animals' perspective! It's all the fun of looking for some food with the added possibility of maybe being photographed.

After being reminded recently of our enjoyment of the (tiny) photography-game genre, we're maintaining tenuous faith that fun can be extracted from this title. The press release follows.

In Wild Earth: African Safari, players assume the role of a photo-journalist on a journey to visually chronicle 30 different wild animals inhabiting the Serengeti National Park. From aggressive packs of hyenas to massive rhinos, the beautifully re-created panorama of the African veldt unfolds as players attempt to capture the shots to create informative magazine quality pictorials. But be warned; get too close to the animals or disrupt the natural landscape and the Impact Meter will rumble your Wii Remote™, making it harder to snap a steady picture.

Two new features exclusive to the Wii version include a cooperative multiplayer mode that allows up to three friends to either drive or take pictures, and a Safari Mini-Game mode where gamers can play from the animals' perspective using intuitive gestures via the Wii Remote. In addition, an inspiring soundtrack from world music label, Talking Drum Records, lends an atmospheric backdrop to the game.

Hmmm... for a budget price, I would consider this. But if it's set at $50, I think I'll pass...

Wild Earth was an Independent Games Festival winner years ago, YEARS before it was finished. The finished game was great, with stunning graphics that I'm sure cannot be replicated on the Wii. Likely it will have to be toned down, which is a shame, but I'm still very interested. I only stopped playing on the PC b/c my 256 mb video card was not able to keep up with the action.
