Wii Fanboy walks you through the Gifting feature
The new update is pretty self-explanatory, but for all of you out there who don't have a Wii or might be away from yours, we figured a nice stroll through the update would brighten your day. So, hit up the video above and see how one hooks up a friend with a Virtual Console game on the Wii.

Sonic_13 @ Dec 10th 2007 10:09PM
That is pretty cool. I hope I get the chance to try it out sometime.
I like how they implemented the refund policy. It's a small feature, but a nice touch to make sure you don't waste your points.

I gifted the Metroid Prime 3 preview channel to my brother's friend as a test.
Maybe he'll send back the Photo Channel 1.1 update? (It's on WiiWare, not a normal system update. Also it's downgradable.)
Valien @ Dec 11th 2007 9:09AM
heh..I gifted Photo Channel 1.1 to my brother in law. :)

Here's an idea on a Fanswag contest: VC Games via the gift shop channel!
Since I suggested it, I get to have Mario Bros 3 too, right? :D

Just sent my first gift to a buddy. I like that it won't let me double buy and will credit my account if my friend doesn't claim the gift.
Biggest problem I had was trying to find a friend who actually had their Wii online. I guess wireless isn't as popular as I thought.
I have a strong feeling that Super Mario 3 is going to do astronomical sales thanks to this new feature. Now if we could use that momentum to extol the virtues of Gunstar Heros.

The gifting feature is both silly and a pain.
With the new shop channel update, there are now two buttons side-by-side, and I can see how many people will push the wrong button and get into the gifting screen by mistake and have to go back one screen.
Also, while the gifting may be helpful for anyone who wants to pay for a pre-agreed-upon VC purchase, it's actually very undesireable for true surprise gifts (assuming one knows the recipient's console number). And that's because the Wii memory is extremely limited, and tastes in games vary. I can see someone gifting games which the recipient doesn't like or doesn't have room for on the console.
For all the above reasons, I'm thinking that it's a cute gimmick, but ultimately having very little real benefit.

Stop looking in a horse's mouth.

I bet you hate puppies too. :)
They make it very clear that you're giving a gift and not downloading it for yourself so I can't see how anyone could mess that up.
I only wish I could do this on the 360 so I could play some arcade titles with my buddies. This feature would be insane if the VC allowed for online multiplayer. Take note MS!
Michael Sliczniak @ Dec 11th 2007 12:36PM
But how does the receiving end look? Also any notification that the gift was accepted?
Dylan Bennett @ Dec 11th 2007 1:23PM
It's painful watching people post videos of the Wii /without/ using a digital video input device (like a tv tuner card or something).
Ludwig Kietzmann @ Dec 11th 2007 2:13PM
No sir, you are the jerk.
(Thanks for the game!)

Anytime, sweet cheeks. :D

Anyone notice the gifting pages are as slick and clean as the normal pages in the channel?(They seem so gritty)
But...let us all hope that nintendo goes to our "My Nintendo"s and gifts us 500 points when our birthdays come!
Trey @ Dec 15th 2007 12:40AM
Am I the only person that wonders what happens if someone already has the game you are gifting to them? Does the Wii know if "John" already has Pac-Man, so the Wii sends you a warning like "John already has this VC game, so you don't need to pay for it and send it to him as a gift"? It just makes me wonder why I haven't seen anything about that. Lots of my friends download games all the time. Why would I pay for and send a "gift" not knowing whether or not they already have it? If they have it, do they just get a button that says "return gift" and I get my points back?

*I meant aren't as slick and clean...*
