VC Monday Madness video wrap-up 12/10/07
Well, our video is later than usual, but with the big Shop Channel update hitting tonight, we kind of had our hands full. It's not often where we have to shoot and edit two videos in one evening. Still, we hate to disappoint, so check out our video wrap-up above and be sure to head past the break for our other coverage of this week's Virtual Console games.

Baseball Stars 2 (NEOGEO, 1-2 players, 900 Wii Points)
Wii Fanboy says: download it!
Oh, what a great baseball game. Baseball Stars 2 is one fun time on the Virtual Console, completely jacked up on steroids and offering up a fast-paced and fun experience. The fielding could be a bit better, but overall it's well worth the price of admission.

Ghosts 'n Goblins (NES, 1-2 players, 500 Wii Points)
Wii Fanboy says: download it!
One of three different versions of the game available on the Virtual Console, we never get tired of Arthur. Personally, it's one of our favorite Capcom franchises. It may be unrelentingly difficult and punishing at times, but it's one of the most challenging and rewarding games out there. No pain, no gain!

Pokémon Snap (Nintendo 64, 1 player, 1,000 Wii Points)
Wii Fanboy says: do not download
The Pokemon franchise is no stranger to spin-offs. It's completely understandable, as the franchise is one of Nintendo's biggest. But, some games just shouldn't happen, like the N64's Pokémon Snap. It's an on-rail game where you take pictures of different Pokemon. It's not very fun, not very difficult and fairly monotonous. For $10, your money is better spent elsewhere.
That concludes our look at this week's Virtual Console games. As always, if you have any tips or rumors regarding Nintendo's Virtual Console service, be sure to let us know and come back next week when we take a look at the latest titles available on the Nintendo Wii.

Sorry folks, the section for Pokemon Snap came out a lot darker than I thought it would. Still, you get the gist of it.
dukemeiser @ Dec 11th 2007 12:09AM
Wow. And here I thought Pokemon Snap was getting hyped as the biggest VC release of the year, especially since it included WiiConnect support. Yet here it is: do not download. Completely surprised me.
Tyler @ Dec 11th 2007 12:06PM
Me too. I was taken aback by your "do not download" since you hyped the game just a few days ago. What's up?
ArmorForVictor @ Dec 11th 2007 12:25AM
WOW Do not download for pokemon snap? i loved the game back on the n64 and still love it on my wii :) recommend it to any pokemon fan
Covarr @ Dec 11th 2007 12:52AM
Pokémon Snap isn't a great game, but it's not bad either. I'd say it's worth a download, but only if there isn't something else you want more. If you have the ten dollars, it's totally worth it, unless that means not getting Super C or Super Mario Bros. 3.
Francis @ Dec 11th 2007 12:56AM
I'm going to have to disagree with Dave too. P Snap is a better game than he made it out to be. I'm not actually a big Pokemon fan at all, but it is an interesting game that offered a little something different for the N64. I don't know if I'll dl it since I still have my N64 and the original cartridge, but if you have a few xtra bucks ... it's not a terrible buy.
(What can I say? Somehow they made taking photos of Pokemon fun for me.)
hvnlysoldr @ Dec 11th 2007 1:08AM
I'd pay full price for the same game with 200-400 more Pokemon available.
Sonic_13 @ Dec 11th 2007 1:22AM
What??????? Pokemon Snap rated as "do notdownload"????
Pokemon Snap was one of my favorite Nintendo64 games and if I had enough Wii Points right now, I would download it in an instant.
I have fond memories of playing Pokemon Snap. I loved it and it was a lot of fun. Pokemon Snap is a great game, and I would recommend it to everyone.
Mr.Nitemare @ Dec 11th 2007 1:27AM
It should be noted that this is purely his opinion, because everywhere i've gone the overwhelming talk about Pokemon Snap has been of how good it is (not amazing, but worth it) - honestly i hate reviews, and "WE SAY" is really "I SAY"...... its all a matter of opinion
Sonic_13 @ Dec 11th 2007 1:31AM
I know it's just his opinion, but I disagree with it and will therefore hate him for it - you know, just like any good fanboy!
(just kidding David, I actually like your work here. keep it up!)
trabs @ Dec 11th 2007 1:28AM
Pokemon Snap was actually a pretty fun game, despite being a Pokemon game. The idea of a photography game was what originally attracted me to it, and I'm glad I tried it.
Motz @ Dec 11th 2007 2:21AM
Pokemon snap is a great game, it just isn't for everyone. You didn't even mention that you can send pictures that you snap to your friends which is pretty cool. I downloaded it and have enjoyed it so far.
stinkbug @ Dec 11th 2007 2:51AM
Agreed, that was a pretty awful overview of Pokemon Snap. I've never played the game and probably won't buy it, but this wrap-up wasn't too informative about the game (other than "do not download!"). As someone mentioned above, you didn't even mention the newly added wii picture message board thingy. In some ways it's a minor feature, but does show the capability of VC games.
The Snap write-up at vc-reviews was much more enlightening:

For some reason, it warms my heart to see people uniting over a snubbed Pokemon game... even though it's at Dave's expense and I think he's pretty awesome (though with TOTALLY different tastes in games from me... like any game review, it's sometimes just better to take the information, but not the suggestions). A pity about the darkness of the video, though... I had to squint quite a bit to make out what was going on in Pokemon Snap and Ghosts 'n Goblins (and I still don't know what happened... other than Dave being bored and then Dave being amused).
Almadi @ Dec 11th 2007 3:12AM
Be more responsible; stop recommending Super Mario Bros 3. The remake (from SMB All-Stars) will probably be released on the VC.
I still hate Nintendo/Capcom because I still have to pay full price on Street Fighter 2 Turbo even though I downloaded the original Street Fighter 2.
Dopple Boppler @ Dec 11th 2007 6:48AM
Pokémon Snap is freaking amazing and you know it~
qrayg @ Dec 11th 2007 8:10AM
G&G is rewarding??? So getting to the end of a really difficult game and being told that you have to do it all over again is rewarding??? Please. The Genesis and SNES G&G games are far better. Don't waste your money on the NES version.
ThekonamiMan @ Dec 11th 2007 8:50AM
Not to nitpick but Ghost 'n Goblins (NES), Ghouls 'n Ghosts (Genesis), and Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts are three seperate games in the same series not 3 different versions of the same game. But I do agree all 3 games are great and totally worth a download. I'd download them myself if I didn't already own multiple copies of the games.
Powergloved Belmont @ Dec 11th 2007 10:09AM
I'm not really into Pokemon that much... and even I know that Pokemon Snap is worth the download. Come on Wii Fanboy, you dropped the ball on this one!
Joshua @ Dec 11th 2007 10:37AM
Yeah, Pokémon Snap. You've barely begun the game. Unlock more of the usable items, and it should become more fun.
David Hinkle @ Dec 11th 2007 11:38AM
I actually played through it when it first came out on the N64. I didn't like it then, still don't like it now. *shrug*
But hey, glad you guys love it! By all means, tell me how wrong I am! :)
Joshua @ Dec 11th 2007 12:55PM
Ah, I see. I thought it was fun, but whatever.
HexiJosh @ Dec 11th 2007 12:16PM
Not fun? Waste of $10? Bull crap.
BebopFox @ Dec 11th 2007 3:31PM
Pokemon Snap is all about the strategy of getting that "perfect picture" in a short amount of time. It is an on-rails-shooter, but to make it even more "hectic", you have to do a multitude of certain things to get Pokemon to perform a dance, evolve, or do some sort of pose which increases your points. That alone makes it worth the download. I honestly found this game a nuisance when I first played it, but the more and more I tried it, I eventually became a huge fan of it.
Ramiro @ Dec 12th 2007 2:23AM
I actually liked the game. Its much more than just taking pictures, you get scored on how the pokemon is centered and what they're doing. but hey I understand if its not for everyone.
Calvin @ Dec 11th 2007 10:50PM
Pokemon snap was awesome and I think your review of it sucked. Sorry, just seemed like you tried to much of your own biased opinion in it.
Calvin @ Dec 11th 2007 10:50PM

Atlantis1982 @ Dec 11th 2007 10:51PM
Much I liked playing Snap on the N64 back in 1999; it's not worth 10.00 to replay the game and maybe sending those stupid photo's to people that could careless. So I agree, don't download it. Another one I wouldn't download, Ghost and Goblins.
Kai Cherry @ Dec 12th 2007 2:26AM
"Could Not Care Less"...if one could "care less" then they haven't reached their limit of caring. Tricky language that English.
And I've got a 5300+ poing Magmar shot that says Snap ain't wack, jack, so I couldn't care less about this stinkin' review ;)
soul4sale @ Dec 12th 2007 5:22PM
You know, guys, I'd like this feature even more if a) you actually recorded the video feed and didn't camcord it, b) you wrote and edited the feature instead of riffing some bored-sounding faux-bro banter and c) you got something beside this child to review the releases. I really don't think a 15-year-old twitch freak is going to have very deep insight into retro gaming.
R @ Dec 12th 2007 10:43PM
Wow, please please tell me you weren't trying at all on that video of Pokemon Snap. My wife has only one hand and even she controls the VC version better than you. Yeah that was a harsh as heck review for the game. I just got into the game this past summer and couldn't wait to download the VC version so I could send pictures (and have another save file!!!).
