No more blood in European version of No More Heroes
While we're glad that Rising Star will be distributing No More Heroes to Europe and Australia, some European (and yes, probably Australian) gamers might be peeved to know that the version of the game they get will be blood-free.
Games Radar asked publisher Rising Star if this decision had anything to do with the recent Manhunt 2 BBFC fiasco, to which the company replied a telling, "Maybe."
This certainly isn't the worst news in the world, and Japan is also playing the blood-free version, but we can understand if European gamers are a little disappointed by this development. Check after the break to see examples of the bloodless version versus the ridiculously bloody, Kill Bill-esque North American version.

o man its raining moneys....
Jonas @ Dec 8th 2007 3:58PM
looks like there is more lag with the blood, but i'm not complaining... does the blood make it all that much better though? it's not really a cool blood shower effect
Archibold @ Dec 8th 2007 5:22PM
So wait, let me get this straight. Neither Europe or Japan get the supposedly "uncensored" version. Are we sure that they didn't just make a different one for America, who is known to appreciate violence, and the others get the original version?
velocitystrike @ Dec 8th 2007 6:03PM
Gah they put ratings on games for a reason. I literally don't understand why they want to censor blood for a game that will likely not sold to people under the age of 16. I mean, and I've said it before, if it's okay to put bloodfests on our cinema screens, apart from the fact that we have a little more interaction (which thus turns into more control), there's no reason why blood should be taken out of games. People contain blood. It's a fact.
Argh.
Why can't they just put in a "blood on/off" option?
Argh, being a European gamer is [sometimes] frustrating.

DUDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LMAO
I had to watch the American version twice. I'm not one for blood and gore making a game better. But honestly -- it's so ridiculous it's awesome.
WOW.
Gordon @ Dec 8th 2007 7:00PM
The blood is completely OTT and ridiculous... I'm pretty sure that's why I love the look of it.
That said, while I'd usually be up in arms about this, the Euro version doesn't look too much worse for it. It's a tad annoying, but I'll live.
Oh, and I had no idea there were a ton of wrestling holds in. Awesome.
Wushupants @ Dec 8th 2007 8:08PM
is there an option to turn the blood/gore off? honestly, i don't see how it's necessary to the gameplay experience itself. i love the stylishness all around and i was getting accustomed to the black dots flying everywhere, so i really do hope there's the option.
RupeeClock @ Dec 8th 2007 8:21PM
Bah, what is this, 1990? I thought we were past omitting blood from the Nintendo versions of popular games like Mortal Kombat and Wolfenstein 3d.
Patius @ Dec 9th 2007 2:07AM
You know, if it was a plasma blade/lighsaber thing, it would carterize the wound, thus, they would just die, not bleed like that.
But hey, nothing wrong with some blood, right?
evan @ Dec 9th 2007 4:59AM
cauterize.
and it's still depressing :(
L @ Dec 9th 2007 8:00AM
Once again I'm glad I'm an American.
ZagZagovich @ Dec 9th 2007 8:35AM
This is depressing. Now I got to do something impossible to get American version work on my PAL system.
iisjreg @ Dec 9th 2007 8:56AM
All they need is for the blood to spray onto the screen, like Gears of War - ha, will never happen. Wait, that WAS released in Europe...
This is why it's so hard being a wii gamer - the 'added' immersion factor. I can feel myself becoming numb with the immense feeling of WIELDING A LIGHT SABER! Stupid censors.
Think Adrian @ Dec 9th 2007 9:15AM
Gimme blood!
Jeremy @ Dec 9th 2007 11:00AM
Well I have to say that I thought the video was great especially at the end were Travis was petting a pu$$y cat. Anyways back to the topic either way blood or no blood I doubt I will be buying this game. Like I said yesterday I will have to rent it before making a decision on buying.
Patius @ Dec 9th 2007 11:21AM
Still, sucks to live in PAL regions
camtouchesboys @ Dec 9th 2007 11:44AM
so unimpressed. if i want to play uber violent games then thats my right doesn't mean i'm suddenly gonna go out into the street and cut someone in half with my light saber. screw you bbfc
AshStampede @ Dec 9th 2007 2:46PM
I have been thinking of selling my wii and importing. I may do that just when there is a steady supply. But that was my first viewing of any no more heroes gameplay footage and I liked the no blood version. It reminded me of killing shadow men in ico.
baronjon @ Dec 9th 2007 3:03PM
this is BS. thanks for making me chip my wii.

I'm so sick of these censor groups trying to raise kids. I'm so fed up of having these gaming experiences ruined for whatever damn reason. There are Rated R movies etc, it's the responsibility of those selling the software to ensure whoever is buying it is of age. And if that person is buying it and not of age then guess what parents add it to a list of problems you may have with your child and start getting involved in their life. If they can sneak a M rated game passed you they probably have cigars etc. Ugh I can't even make a coherent argument, this is a great game and I don't want it ruined.
evan @ Dec 9th 2007 8:33PM
honestly, they should at least try to get it rated.
i'm fairly certain the blood would be allowed through here in australia - it all comes down to context and portrayal, the NMH is cartoony enough and nonsensical for it to get through.
After all, Killer 7 was released here in all it's bloody gore and didn't even blip the moral radar.
evan @ Dec 9th 2007 11:08PM
excuse the double post, but it occured that this is another fine example of the australian games market being unduly influenced by the european market.
We have our own laws, and in most respects generally follow american trends anyway (as much as that also sucks..)
i would rather the rating board appointed by the territory decides, and would be happy to abide by that decision, but unfortunately since our distributor here will be redistro'ing the rising star release, not the ubisoft release, it appears we will have no say in the matter.
bah-freaking-humbug.
