Vii would like to advertise
How hilarious is this Vii thing? We can't believe the unit is even being bought by some people, let alone making enough money to warrant advertising. But, sure enough, here we sit talking about a commercial for the thing. We're kind of tempted to track one down ourselves to see how bad the included games are, but we're worried about providing our credit card number to the company manufacturing these things. Thankfully, other people on the internet aren't as scared as we are.

I've seen even worse crap being sold in Argentina for years. Actually, I'm surprised the Chinese are now ditching NES technology.
crazypenguin @ Dec 3rd 2007 8:22PM
it actually makes a lot of sense for a thing like this to sell. its much cheaper and its hard to find a wii, it would be a gag gift for christmas, or "i'm sorry i couldn't get you a wii, here's a vii till i can find one" type of gift, who knows, its still not as bad as you make it out to be, its just a knock off, and no knock off is as good as the original, even when this should be priced to about 30 buckers.
Jeremy @ Dec 3rd 2007 8:31PM
This thing only comes with 12 pre-installed games and I don't think it even has a disc drive. It is nothing more than a high end plug and play unit with Wii type controls. I would have to agree with crazypenguin in it should be priced around $30 US.
Also note from the video of the China man named James.

watching this kind of made me sick.. the problem is that because of the vii.. chinese people may confuse it with the real wii.. the wii's aim is to broader their range of consumers by trying to reach non-gamers.. and because most non-gamers do not have much knowledge about videogames.. that is what will make chinese people believe that this is the "original" wii that some may have heard from foreign countries.. Also it will easily be mistaken for the real thing because of its similar pronunciation and I do not think that many chinese people pay much attention to the way it is written.. that is problem of the "word of mouth" concept being exploited by the chinese manufacturers...
I have met some chinese people who strongly believed and argued back that the fake stuffs they were buying were the real thing that other people in other countries were buying..

Most Chinese people I know are neither stupid nor illiterate. You have got to be kidding me.
Marc Vong @ Dec 5th 2007 8:05PM
i m chinese myself.. and I have lived in china too.. i m currently living in thailand.. and i m not sayin that chinese are stupid or illiterate.. i m just considering their environment in which they are living and to what they are exposed to everyday.. and here is the perfect example of what kind of BS they can be exposed to everyday.. tv filled with corrupted ads...
joe23521 @ Dec 6th 2007 2:52PM
Your original comment, while having good intentions I'm sure, sounded a bit condescending.
Most folks in China, especially in urban areas, are every bit as technologically savvy as are most folks in, say Wisconsin. I would think a majority would be able to spot a fake when they see one, especially given the amount of exposure to knockoffs the Chinese customer has.

Hahaha! I love my people.
James is apparently a Singaporean Olympic something or other... they've got him singing the whole "the Vii will exercise your kids and entertain your bored elders!" schtick (there are no real advertising scruples on Chinese TV).
I'd love to try this thing out the next time I'm in China.... ESPECIALLY if they've got the jet-ski attachment up for demo (http://www.letvgo.com/Video_moto.htm). If it's actually cheap, it might make a nice present for my cousin in Beijing... it's a step up from him ducking behind couches and yelling "pew pew!" while making gun motions, at least (now he can ride a JET-SKI and yell "pew pew!").
racecar @ Dec 3rd 2007 10:52PM
Ha. I think the testimonial part was my favorite, closely followed by the "bored elders" bit.

I was at a Best Buy in Paramus NJ the other day and a sales person was walking around holding up one of these Vii units and announcing that it was the last one they had in stock! But 30 minutes later they had another one!
Just kidding!
I hope these units are available... if for no other reason because it will be funny to see more Viis being sold that PS3s!
"Vii would like to play!"

I loved the darts actions, kept waiting for some one to actually through the controller at the screen for a bulls eye.
NeoGunKuruma @ Dec 4th 2007 6:40PM
I'd like to smack the Vii folks upside the head with a Wiimote.
LOL
Wii pwns all cheap clones!
NO MERCY
ScoTT @ Dec 4th 2007 5:31PM
They copied (made cheaper versions of):
1. the name
2. the games
3. the controller
4. the structure
5. the gameplay
6. who knows what else
I have a feeling Nintendo will try to sue them. People complain about the Wii's graphics. The Vii's graphics are much worse! You cannot beat the Wii. The Wii...
1. is liscened by Nintendo, so it gets special Nintendo games, products, and services. (Nintendo being a company with a good reputation)
2. is not a takeoff of a more sophisticated product
3. is one of the "big 3," so it definately has a better variety of games
Vii looks like something slopped together in a few hours by some guy who watched some lame "get rich quick" DVD. Parents, be nice to your kids and get a Wii.
JimmyB @ Dec 4th 2007 5:40PM
"I have a feeling Nintendo will try to sue them."
Sadly, I doubt it. China doesn't care at all about enforcing intellectual property laws, which is why piracy is so rampant there. Going after these losers is unlikely to get Nintendo any joy.
Say it with me: "Vii suck"... er.... ;)
ScoTT @ Dec 4th 2007 8:54PM
O, it only was released in China. BTW: Vii suck.
NeoGunKuruma @ Dec 4th 2007 8:05PM
"Vii suck" LOL
nothing can beat the Wii, all that R&D at nintendo can't be cloned by a cheap chinese company. I mean it doesn't even glow blue!
Paul @ Dec 6th 2007 2:41AM
That old guy is not using the Wii, I mean Vii-strap!
Think they'll issue replacement straps or free Vii-jackets?
