Summon Night 1 and 2: The other, other simultaneous RPG remakes
We recently learned via scans that the first two Summon Night RPGs were being remade for the DS, joining other tandem series remakes like Dragon Quests IV, V, and VI, and the simultaneously (but separately) releasing Ys I and II. These two Summon Nights, rather than coming out on the same day, will be a few months apart, the first planned for spring and the second for summer. They are, however, being promoted and previewed in concert, with Famitsu posting separate screenshot posts on the same day. That's ... actually a bit strange, in that the preview for the second game talks about all the improvements that were made over Summon Night, like being able to select your character's sex, and what looks like an improved map view. It's just slightly awkward to hint about a game's relative obsolescence in an adjacent piece.

Are you sure these are from Summon Night??
I absolutely enjoyed the first one on GBA, and the second one is still in my micro waiting to be finished...
The screen shots on those pages don't look anything like the art on the GBA games, which is one of the major thing that attracted me to the series... these look like they came out of Hoshigami Remix!

Absolutely certain, unless the mistake is Famitsu's. The GBA games were a spinoff series of the main Summon Night games.

It does seem like a little bit of unclever marketing but then again explaining that FF 1 had less depth than FFIV is probably too obvious to be worth it: At least Famitsu is being honest and it sounds like they think that hardcore fans of the series realize that the sequel has these improvements and probably won't care. Or, alternatively, perhaps they have included the ability to choose your characters gender and other enhancements in the remake, and are merely telling what the originals were like. Who knows? You, probably: since you actually read it!

Is there any confirmation these are being ported here/the US?
So many good TRPGs get left in Japan untranslated/ported.
