Japanese release of Wii Fit met by loooong queues
We may still lack solid numerical data when it comes to Japanese sales of Wii Fit, but all the early signs have been pointing to Nintendo scoring another major non-game hit.The scene to the right, for example, shows a queue of soon-to-be Wii Fit owners, patiently lining up in Akihibara. As the pictures after the jump and at the link below illustrate, this is far from a one-off; Wii Fit is shaping up to be big, in a way that poor old Super Mario Galaxy wasn't.
Barring shortages of the Balance Board, or another miraculous performance from Dragon Quest IV (not that that should be completely ruled out), expect Wii Fit to be hogging top spot in Japan next week.

I'll be honest and say that I can't see or understand the attraction of Wii Fit at all. :/

Same. I don't have any interest in Wii Fit (unless it's REALLY surprisingly better than what I've seen of it so far, I'll just keep exercising on my own), and as of yet, I have not reason to be excited for the Balance Board.
Maybe something better for the accessory will be out next year.

It's not a game per se.
It's "entertainment." There is such strange thing in adult world...

You can't see or understand the attraction??? It's a pure masterstroke! This thing might seem a little odd now, but wait until developers start to use the thing! I can't wait to play games that incorporate it. I'm absolutely desperate for a sequel to 1080 Snowboarding... if you're listening Nintendo, we want a proper exploring snowboarding game... it could be perfect... just think about it...

Wii Fit = meh. Balance Board = Interesting. I just want to see what kind of 3rd party stuff can be done (and done well) with the board.

Yeah. I hear that. I can't wait to get it hooked up to GlovePIE.

My mom and my sister want it.
I don't see what it is, but it's working.
Balance Boards print money.

Man I love my stock in nintendo! :-)

I dont' see what the attraction to a US Mint is: I dont' see what the allure of a truly revolutionary new way to help people and print cash at the same time, i dont' understand why anybody would think 'body training' might be a hit like 'brain training,' i dont' understand why i'm a hardcore 17 year old male gamer and can't imagine anybody feeling any differently about things than me, i don't understand this and that...
What I'm trying to say is: DUH! The WII BALANCE BOARD! WOOO! WIIIIII FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT MANNNNN!

I never suggested that others were wrong to feel excited about Wii Fit, you have grossly misrepresented my post. I merely suggested that I personally cannot recognize a compelling reason to buy Wii Fit as of yet. The success of DS brain training games is perfectly understandable because they allows one to compete against oneself which can make a motivated person more apt to continue playing the game for a significant amount of time. As of yet, Wii Fit is just an interactive exercise accessory. Until the concept can be evolved to incorporate more ideas pertaining to a game-like product as the Brain Age series did for mechanical reflexive thinking then I fail to see how this much attention for the product is warranted. It's not stupid or illogical, but Wii Fit should prove it has some compelling content before Wii owners have an orgasm over it.

What's to understand? It's Nintendo! The Japanese have an obligation to worship their overlord.

Oh great, so now the "phenomenal" sales of shallow casual shovelware Wii Fit are going to be directly compared to the supposedly disappointing ones of the incredible beautiful masterpiece Mario Galaxy. As if Nintendo needed anymore encouragement....
Ihar `Philips` Filipau @ Dec 5th 2007 5:02PM
So you think people should be more interested in remake of remake of sequel game to game which was based on game originally published 20+ years ago?? OMG.
But seems sanity prevails in Japan: people jump on (in case of Wii Fit - literally) on *new* and *original* stuff.
I'm pretty happy that Nintendo still can do something *new* and *original*. Japs are with me anyway ^_^

It seems kind of small and limiting it to just a few options might be okay or maybe not. I kind of always liked the idea of Sony's Eyetoy which would read your body movements even if it wasn't perfect (always wanted to play fighting game using it...)
