Japan: Oh, Snap!
We know a lot of people have been waiting for Pokémon Snap, because they tell us. Frequently! It should come as a comfort to those people, then, that the game is scheduled for release on Japan's Virtual Console on December 4th, which makes a release in other territories soon after a near inevitability. We admit to a fondness for the nonviolent rail shooter ourselves, and it's aged rather well for an N64 game.
An N64 game on the VC is big enough news (they can only come out during a full moon on a warm night, and then only if nothing is there to spook them), but the release of Pokémon Snap also carries some news that is significant to the very nature of the Wii's classic game download service. You will be able to send your in-game photos to Wii Friends. We don't necessarily think Pokémon photo sharing is, itself, a killer app or anything, though we'll probably take advantage of the service if we can generate awkward enough poses. This is the first time that a Virtual Console game has had functionality added to it (instead of having functionality removed) and it means that Nintendo is not above going in and changing a game for a good reason. As long as that reason is Pokémon. Also surprisingly, the game will be the normal 1000 Wii Points.

That is pretty cool

Pokémon Snap was my favourite N64 Pokémon game bar the Stadium games and that Puzzle League thing so, erm...yay!
I still haven't downloaded any N64 games though. I prefer playing them with a proper pad.

You'd be surprised, but the Gamecube pad works wonders for VC N64 titles.

You didn't own a lot of N64 games... Did you?

I was a Dreamcast guy if I'm being honest, ssuk. My N64 was for PD, Goldeneye, Mario Kart and F Zero^^

Nice. I do hope they expand on this in the future, and even update older games with online functions too. Online multiplayer on Kart 64 would be very nice.

This is the only 64 game besides Ocarina my GF ever had and I'm gonna get her the VC version! 480p! LOL

I absolutely loved Pokemon Snap. It was one of two games that I have ever rented where I actually kept playing non-stop and played through the entire game (more than once!).
I am really glad to hear about the extra functionality. I'm ok with extra features as long as it doesn't change the core of the game. Simply being able to send your pictures is a really cool idea.
I'll have to seriously consider downloading this title if and when it gets released in the US.

I rented it once, and that was good enough. No thanks.

I've really been anticipating the VC release of this game. I haven't played it since it came out but only have the fondest memories of it. It'll definitely hit some major nostalgia points for me...
I think I may still have some little stickers (I think?) that you could get made at Blockbuster of pictures you took in the game.

Are you sure this is actually a Virtual Console title? Considering the extra functionality, I thought maybe it'd be Wii Ware instead (even though I guess there isn't much difference).
Orange Soda @ Nov 30th 2007 10:21PM
Nevermind.

I had just remarked using Wii's SD cards to print out Pokemon snapshots. SWEET!
