Want to get the most out of your
Wii Sports experience? Well, if you don't have a handy
movie theater at your disposal, you can always try the same solution our own
Mike Sylvester favors: hooking your Wii up to a
projector. From the photos at Flickr of
Wii Sports on an
Epson MovieMate 72, we can't help but think that would make for some nice games of golf or bowling. If only there were more photos! Click through to see this one in all its full-sized glory, and check out the others here. The colors are just maddeningly rich. Now we're kinda feeling like throwing down on a game or two ....

I had one problem with using the Wii on a projector: standing to play. Unless your living room is like a movie theater, you can't really stand in the middle without starting to block out the picture. This forces you to stand off to the side. Not that big of an issue, but kinda removes some of the coolness of having a screen as big as your wall that you're trying to immerse yourself with. Other than that, it's super fun. I just wished I owned both the Wii *and* the projector, rather than just having borrowed the latter.

Bad idea.
I had my Wii hooked up to a HD projector. It was horribe to play Wii Sports because you could not stand in front of the screen like a normal TV. Also displaying a 480p image on a 71 inch display was jaggie central.

Wow... Wii Sports on a 4:3 TV looks weird... Only ever played it on a 16:9...
Anyway, this idea was better than my idea than to record background noise from a local bowling alley and have it on continuous loop in the back of the room to give it a more surround-sound feel during sessions of bowling...

I "borrow" the projector from our family business but essentially
it's always at the house. As Gapsky412 pointed out, mounting it on the ceiling is what I want to do ideally, but for now I find it
sufficient to just lay it atop a large cooler in front of me since
there isn't any need to get close to a 100-inch screen. Cables do
become tedious though. Projectors also add a lot of value to
multi-players since split screens and related impediments are less
obtrusive.

What do you do for sound?

It looks scrunched - is the wii set to 16:9 mode on this 4:3 projector?
I, too, find that I cast a shadow when standing up and playing. Fortunately, I'm one of those lazy toolboxes:

Living in China, and was lucky recently to get a low-end widescreen projector for 280 usd - and its just amazing, before I rarely bothered to play any games, but now anytime I have freetime, can't wait to get back to that big screen - Mario Galaxy has something to do with it as well ^.^
Only problem with using a projector with a wii, is the sensorbar is too small, a problem i have overcome by taping two sensorbars together end-to-end and taping over the middle leds.

I got to play Wii on a MovieMate projector back in August, and the experience was great. That was a MovieMate 30, though, which is standard definition. The new MovieMate 50 would also be standard definition and probably work better. Not sure how the 720p MovieMate 72 would handle this one.

If you're in the 720p projector market, may I recommend Mitsubishi's HD-1000U. It's a few hundred dollars less than that MovieMate and the reviews are favorable. I'll probably be picking one up after Christmas.
