Perfect Shot is perfect fodder for hysterical headlines
If, like the Washington Post, you expect hysteria to reign over the Zapper, just wait until the mainstream press catches a glimpse of Nyko's contribution to the ever-growing pile of third-party alternatives.
The "Perfect Shot" is the most gun-like shell we've seen to date, a world away from the Zapper's unoffending curves and thoroughly un-gun-like appearance. And we'd bet our very last cent on it provoking outraged bleating from the press (and perhaps even a certain lawyer), who will no doubt make gossamer-thin links between a plastic toy and real-life violence in the process.
So, in a Wii Fanboy world exclusive, we're going to beat them to the punch: if you want to train your child to be a cold-blooded, callous killer, you can pick up the Nyko Perfect Shot for just $13 on Amazon from December 24, and raise a murderer.

man, I just went back to that fox news clip for the first time. I can imagine those pricks going to town with this one on a slow news day soon
Jeremy @ Nov 26th 2007 2:10PM
OMG I better get out the ol gun case to make sure my son doesn't get his hands on it and starts his killing spree before his training is finished.
I can't wait to see what Jack and friends has to say about this one. I am sure they will have to bring in a single specialist that is on a payroll to make sure they get the point across "games are bad." Now the ESRB is going to be asked to rate accessories and give a special warning on games that can use the accessories. I can see it now:
"Warning:
Game experiences may be more realistic if using a gun shell with the controller. Please kill responsibly."

You know, I played with the NES gun when I was 4 years old and I never killed anything except billions of pixels (poor pixels, never stood a chance).
But aside from the controversy, this shell seens to be WAY better then the useless Zapper. I mean it has a trigger for crying out loud, so I won't have to shoot with the C button using my left hand and aiming with the right like the freaking Zapper. Best looking gun-shell yet (and it isn't all orange like Time Crisis. What's up with Orange Light guns?)
Croove55 @ Nov 26th 2007 3:01PM
The original NES zapper was changed to orange for the same reasons that this zapper is actually being discussed. There was too much controversy over the gray zapper looking too much like a real gun. Thus, they switched to bright orange, to distance the zapper from real weapons aesthetically. The arcade orange zappers might be a holdover from the same school of thought. At least it keeps people from holding up banks with stolen arcade game zappers.

It looks nicer than most accessories, but it still makes all the remote buttons inaccessible, so it still fails.
BrandonIT @ Nov 26th 2007 3:29PM
@FullMetal Salchemist:
I've heard that a lot about different "gun shells" making the buttons useless. Could you (or anyone else) describe how a gun shell could be made that would NOT make the Wiimote buttons inaccessible?
It would seem to be difficult since the buttons and D-pad are so close to the IR sensor in the front. Since the "up" position of the Wiimote is with the buttons facing upward, it would seem difficult to put a downward-facing handle on the Wiimote and NOT make the top-mounted buttons unusable without using a separate hand...
Not trying to be a jerk, I'm just wondering if there's something I'm missing...
Fullmetal Salchemist @ Nov 26th 2007 4:05PM
You make the gun an actual peripheral and not just a shell. You put buttons in accessible locations and map them to the face buttons on the remote. Obviously, it won't be cheap or easy to do it, but at least the gun won't be useless.

I want one.

SIGHTPOSTS!
Hahaha well the Core Gamer Wii Blaster didn't spark any controversy. Seems like for the mainstream media to pay attention the gaming media has to do it first. Same thing happened with Manhunt 2. IGN did an article about "the most violent game of all time" and BAM, controversy. So ya, because you guys reported on it of course its going to spark a hissy fit from parents and news outlets looking for a scapegoat to blame instead of admitting to piss poor fear-mongering and lack of actual parenting. Thanks guys ;)
Still, I want one :D
Gungadin @ Nov 26th 2007 9:16PM
So I'm curious. Was there as much anti-hype about the Time Crisis guns/games as there is about the zapper? If not, whats up with that?
Ian @ Nov 27th 2007 9:01AM
The contrasting colors will also help reduce the number of Wii users shot to death by overzealous police as they burst into our living rooms with guns drawn looking for "evil doers" of any sort that the RIAA and/or the administration just happen to define as the target of the day. Here's the scenario - cops burst in and fire at innocent Wii players with their gungun shells in their hands. The coloring might reduce the number of Wii-ers murdered!
PyrosNine @ Nov 27th 2007 4:17PM
I want this soooo bad for RE4, and just for shock value. though I bet the thing is pretty big and unwieldy considering how big a wiimote actually is.

Thanks for the tip. My 3 year old would love this so I logged on today and bought 2!

Konami needs to make a sniper rifle shell and bundle it with a new Silent Scope game. That will make the biggest controversy of them all.
