Fire Emblem transfer glitch to be fixed
One neat feature in the Wii's Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn is that you can import a save file from the game's GameCube prequel, Path of Radiance. This will give some of your characters stat boosts, not to mention a few other nice perks. For anyone who just rolled through PoR on easy mode in order to beat the game quickly and pump their characters full of bonus experience, however, Radiant Dawn will laugh at you and then slap you in the face for good measure. See, easy mode files don't transfer over to Radiant Dawn because (as you'll know if you've played the game), the word "easy" isn't in its vocabulary. Even if you try to transfer a normal or hard mode file while having any easy mode PoR files saved somewhere else on your card, Radiant Dawn will have none of that.
Christian from The Tanooki decided to contact Nintendo on the issue, and it seems that Nintendo will have a fix ready by mid-December. In order to get your disc repaired (or possibly get a completely new disc), you have to contact Nintendo about the issue, give them your name, address, and phone number, and then send your disc to them when prompted.
So, what lesson have we learned from all this? Well, that Fire Emblem is for badasses only, of course.

Haha! Ain't that the truth! I swear, you guys need to start doing a podcast. I'm afraid of just how awesome that would be...

Here's a better lesson:
Don't release a console that doesn't support patches via the internet or you'll find yourself constantly shipping discs back and forth every time a bug comes up.

I agree wholeheartedly. I come to realize that Wii is not a well built console. Sure, its well built in the fact that its not dying every month like the 360 is, but I find myself all too often thinking things like "Man, I wish I could use the Classic Controller on Gamecube games" or "This online would be a heck of a lot better if I could hook up my headset to the USBs in the back" or "I wish I wouldn't have to delete a game off of my console every week to buy a new VC game."

I'm glad I stopped buying games on launch. This is like the 5th game that's bugged. What happened to QA, Nintendo?
Zelda: Twilight Princess: Bugged
Supa Paper Mario: Bugged
Mario Galaxy: Bugged
Fire Emblem: Bugged.
All first party titles. All of them bugged. Damnit.
thethirdmoose @ Nov 23rd 2007 11:51PM
Zelda-ridiculously minor
SPM-pretty minor, only PAL
SMG- Sob, there is an obnoxiously small chance you will have to reload a boss battle
FE- Don't be a wuss
HawthorneKitty @ Nov 24th 2007 12:12AM
I've learned a great lesson today.
Exo @ Nov 24th 2007 12:33AM
lol, every game has bugs, there is no game that is 100% perfect
RupeeClock @ Nov 24th 2007 4:18PM
Well, yes, but all of these games with bugs, Nintendo has been offering replacement discs for...

Here's an even better lesson:
LOL

Forgot to say: Couldn't Nintendo just patch this!? Activision was talking about patching Dolby Pro-Logic II for GTIII so why couldn't Nintendo do the same for Fire Emblem?
idioteraser @ Nov 24th 2007 8:45AM
Ahem patches existed long before the internet did. I remember patch floppy disks for example. A disc exchange is a permenant patch fix since the patched version is now the one being manufactored and a lot of bugged copies would be removed from circulation. Patching also occurs at the manufactorer's end.
Also there are loads more bugged ps3 and xbox 360 games. Quite a few psp games had to be exchanged as well.
Buntaro @ Nov 24th 2007 8:51AM
I prefer replacement disks over online updates.
I wouldn't want my console to die, and as a result have 20+ broken games at home that can't be fixed because Nintendo shut down the Wii server in 2015 (just a random number)
I'm aware that I'm exaggerating here btw. but I take everybody get's my idea now.

Clear this up for me:
1) This only affects Easy mode saves, right?
2) I only have one Normal mode save, so I should be fine, whether my disc is glitched or not, right?
thethirdmoose @ Nov 24th 2007 10:52AM
Yes, as far as I know
Candace Savino @ Nov 24th 2007 1:44PM
1) Yes, only easy mode saves.
2) Yes, you will be fine as long as you have no easy mode saves on PoR. You have only one normal mode save, so you will be fine.
Mr Khan @ Nov 24th 2007 11:45AM
Hmm, i thought it was because i was loading the files from a 3rd-party (Interact, no less) Flash Memory card, or that the file was simply corrupt, so i just skipped it after it froze the first time
Maybe i'll send it to them over christmas season, as then i'll be playing NiGHTS 2, and since you can't add clear data to an already-created file, it's not like i need it immediately...
ssuk @ Nov 24th 2007 11:53AM
You watch, the fix will come available in a week or so with discs being able to be swapped for newer versions, yet the PAL version of Super Paper Mario with the game freezing glitch has been known by them for ages now and they said they'd replace discs back in October. It's now November and we haven't heard a peep from Nintendo Europe about this issue since they announced there was a problem. Gotta love Nintendo.
Malik @ Nov 24th 2007 12:54PM
At least the game still works guys... no need to spazz.
Metayoshi @ Nov 24th 2007 12:23PM
I guess I'm lucky that I NEVER played easy in Path of Radiance. Then again, playing through Radiant Dawn makes me regret not leveling up some characters.
SoshiKitai @ Nov 24th 2007 1:39PM
*sigh*
I always try to do an Easy-then-Normal-then-Hard in most games...
But when another game comes out, the most I can do is finish Easy then move onto the next game...
I only ignore that rule when it comes to sequels...
Sadly, Fire Emblem was on the Easy-then-Normal-etcetc rule... and I didn't get halfway through Normal before another game came out.
...now I have to get back to the GameCube version. Whatever, it's a good game. :)
Candace Savino @ Nov 24th 2007 1:45PM
If you don't want to swap discs, make sure you delete your easy mode save once you complete it on normal or it won't transfer :).
Mr Khan @ Nov 24th 2007 2:03PM
I played it through on Easy, as it was my first Fire Emblem, then did it again on Easy to try and focus on different characters (namely Oscar, Soren, and Jill), and then i did it a third time on Easy to try and get all the characters (especially Stefan and Nasir)
Thus i never advanced to Normal difficulty, i was too busy trying to get everything out of Easy
flameofdoom666 @ Nov 25th 2007 12:42AM
This is awful news. I own PoR and RD- I havn't played RD yet because of Super Mario Galaxy- but when I do, I gotta check my PoR file. I think its normal- but I am not even sure. EeekkkkK!
