DS reaches the twenty million mark in Japan
After only three years on the market, the Nintendo DS has sold twenty million units in Japan. This total, which was compiled by sales tracker Media Create, seems to be further proof that the DS prints money. Nintendo projects twenty-three million sales in Japan by the end of its fiscal year in March.Congratulations, Nintendo, you've done well for yourself.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had no idea the DS was doing this well. It's up to 54.96 on VG Chartz. Christmas/New Year's hasn't even come yet.
Anyone who still thinks the PSP can compete with the DS is insane.

How many has the PS2 done in Japan?
James @ Nov 17th 2007 6:36PM
That's 1 DS for every 6 or 7 people. Holy shit-balls.

Incredible. In some years we can read on videogame history preserving sites, how the DS saved Nintendo from bankruptcy.

Wikipedia says 120 million for the PS2.

Worldwide for the PS2, but not exclusively in Japan. I *think* the PS2 has sold around 21 million in Japan, so the DS will pass it soon.

JC those are world wide numbers not Japan only numbers and besides I owned 3 broke ass PS2's for ever DS I've owned. I bet those PS2 numbers are overblown.

BTW PS2 sales in Japan are close to 21 million (about 200k off last time I checked). The DS will pass it pretty soon.

Whoops, you're right. Worldwide numbers. Anyway, DS fandom is no reason to hate on the PS2. It's totally unreliable hardware, but it's got one of the best libraries of any system ever made. I'm glad the DS is doing so well, of course, but I won't consider it a victory over evil or anything like that when it passes PS2 (which it will-- the Dragon Quest games aren't even out yet).
