VC Monday Madness video wrap-up 11/12/07

With the day of the week being Monday and all, some new Virtual Console games have hit our digital doorstep. And, as you can imagine, we were anxious to download and play them. And play them we did. So, be sure to hit up the video above and head past the break afterward for some more of our coverage.

Volleyball (NES, 1-2 players, 500 Wii Points)
Wii Fanboy says: do not download

While Nintendo's Volleyball for the NES is technically sound, it's just outdated and boring. Personally, we're not a big fan of having to move multiple players at the same time, but we certainly understand the technical limitations that would cause the control scheme to call for it. As a barebones version of the sport, we can't suggest you plunk the 5 bills down on it.

Blue's Journey (NeoGeo, 1-2 players, 900 Wii Points)
Wii Fanboy says: do not download

Our biggest problem with Blue's Journey is its speed. The game is very slow, which is a feature that most side-scrollers do not share. It has light platforming elements within, as well. The mechanic of having in-game currency to spend on items mixes things up a tad, but ultimately isn't enough to save it for us. For $9, we can't suggest giving this a download.

Axelay (Super NES, 1 player, 800 Wii Points)
Wii Fanboy says: download it!

As a fan of the genre, it would be easy for us to just that its classification as a shoot-em-up alone demands you download it. But, thankfully, the game has a lot more going for it, including its finely-tuned level of challenge and arsenal of different weaponry. The game keeps you on the edge of your seat, as well, by delivering loads upon loads of obstacles and enemies.

Finally! Axelay!! I still love this shooter. Great graphics, sound and music. Not as good as I use to be though. Need to practice to get to the kick-a@# space colony level.

In Blue's Journey, you can't save anywhere in the game. And NEOGEO games on the VC don't have the save state feature.
So you either finish the game in one sitting or don't bother.

That volleyball game is terrible. If you want a really sweet volleyball game for the NES Super Spike V-Ball is the dank.

@2 Wow. That bites. I was gonna grab it, but man - that makes me seriously reconsider. I love the save-state, it makes mario manageable in his many platformers, and the same with kid icarus, who wants to use passwords.

That Axelay game looks flippin sweet! I'm definately getting that. As far as volleyball, I wasn't too impressed with NES hockey, so i'll probably skip that.

I have to say thanks to Wiifanboy for providing these video wrapups, it makes buying on the VC so much easier.
