Check your local Best Buy, they could be selling Super Mario Galaxy right now
Several of the folks frequenting the message boards over at GameFAQS are reporting that several Best Buy locations have broken the street date for Super Mario Galaxy. These lucky folk who were able to walk into their local Best Buy and walk out with a wrapped copy of Super Mario Galaxy not only win what is sure to be the best Wii game of the year (Sorry, Metroid Prime 3. We still BFF?), but also our unadulterated hate. Why? Because our local Best Buy is closed at the time of this report. Now, before you get all up in arms that this is only the crazed ramblings of a GameFAQS forum poster, know that several in the lengthy thread have come out of the woodwork to confirm this. Know, also, that some have claimed to be managers at other retail locations and Best Buy itself, stating that it isn't normal to receive product a week before release.
So, take it as you will, but you can bet when morning hits, we'll be heading over to our local Best Buy to try our luck.

Ugh, I have got to try that tomorrow. My experience with Best Buy customer service hasn't been top-notch, though...
Even if they have it, I probably won't buy it. I've got $10 down at Circuit City, a Gamer's Saving Club card there (for 10% off), and of course the coin. I might go down to the store just to cuddle with it...

Meh, I'll just wait for TRU, to get that $25 gift card. With that, I can buy Zack & Wiki, too!
Pickles23 @ Nov 6th 2007 10:55PM
What is TRU? This will be the game of the year. It has been too long to wait for this.
StckFigure @ Nov 6th 2007 11:01PM
TRU = Toys R Us, and it's what I'm waiting for, too. But can someone confirm for me, please, is the promotion good for MONDAY or TUESDAY? IIRC, the game comes out on Monday, but the promotion is Tuesday, but I also thought I heard "on the release day until 5 PM" or something like that.
Trey @ Nov 6th 2007 11:02PM
TRU = Toys 'R' Us
AndrewNeo @ Nov 6th 2007 11:07PM
Well how convenient for me, I have to go there tomorrow to pick up a new computer headset.. I guess I might just be making two purchases!
Casper32 @ Nov 6th 2007 11:20PM
Despite the game running a bit short, it's still one of the best Wii games made so far. Game just has a great feel.
Evangelist Pinto @ Nov 6th 2007 11:45PM
Even if there was a best buy next to me I cant for 3 reasons: 1. I preordered at target 2. I dont have any money left, just like 5 bucks and 3. I dont have a wii. XD Really. I just wanted the target reservation card cause its a hologram! lol
Archibold @ Nov 6th 2007 11:52PM
I, too, will wait for Toys R Us. I want the game, but not badly enough to miss out on a free $25 dollar gift card. That deal is enough to make me cancel my Gamestop preorder and forego the coin. Plus, my wallet will enjoy the reprieve when I buy Zack and Wiki the same day.

I'm buying SMG at TRU for $25 next week!
If you are the same as me and already have all other games and accessories you want, do this
1) Buy SMG at $24.99, buy giftcard at $24.99 - this is supposedly how it will ring up (total spent = $50 plus tax)
2) Use giftcard to buy any game, adding $25 in cash (total spent = $75 plus tax)
3) Return unopened game for $50+tax in cash (total spent = $25 plus tax)
vidGuy @ Nov 7th 2007 12:33AM
@StckFigure
The pic I've seen of the flyer says that SMG will be ON THE SHELF by 5PM Tuesday. All copies are supposed to get the giftcard, reserved or not. I'd be there a little before 5 on Tuesday to be sure to get yours.
Rumor is that all stores are supposed to get 100 - 150 copies, though, so it shouldn't be too hard to grab one.
StckFigure @ Nov 7th 2007 12:42AM
@vidGuy 10: Won't you just get $50 in TRU gift card that way, or at least $25 since that's what the receipt will show?
@vidGuy 11: So I'm supposed to go to TRU around then (hopefully before - I have to BE somewhere at 5!) and take the game and a $25 gift card to the register, and the whole total will ring up as $50+tax, or I get the game and take it to the register, which rings up at price and then they hand me a $25 card? (It sounds like you interpreted the ad better than I did!)
vidGuy @ Nov 7th 2007 12:47AM
I think TRU gives cash refunds on unopened games - if I'm reading their return policy right. And since I'm returning a game that I bought with $25 gift card and $25 cash (SMG won't show up on the second receipt), I should get $50 cash. I'm thinking anyway :) Otherwise I'll end up just getting a Wii Points card, which for free is still a good deal.
I'm not sure if they will have cards at the register or will expect customers to pick them up - hopefully there's some info in-store.
vidGuy @ Nov 7th 2007 12:55AM
Meh, ex-neigh on my plan. Looks like TRU gives you a refund in the way you pay for a game - so you'd get a giftcard and $25 cash back :( Looks like it's a Points card for me!
mike @ Nov 8th 2007 12:31PM
I am Getting SMG at TRU and waiting to spend the gift card on Medal Of Honor 2...that game looks amazing.
Undead Priest @ Nov 7th 2007 2:55AM
I worked at TRU last year. The way it will work is this:
- The giftcard will be given out the entire duration of the ad
- You MUST pay the entire purchase amount ($50 + tax)
- You CANNOT use the giftcard within the same transaction, meaning you must ring up a second item to use said giftcard (yes, you CAN have two items to buy, just ring Mario Galaxy up first if you plan to use the giftcard right away on your 2nd purchase, in which has to be a seperate transaction, IE ring them up seperately)
Undead Priest @ Nov 7th 2007 3:03AM
I should have said this in my last post:
You can't walk into TRU with $25 and expect to walk out with Mario Galaxy.
Yes, special giftcards printed with Mario SHOULD be at the registers. If your store didn't receive these, regular old giftcards (which your cashier should also have) will substitute.
mark richardson @ Nov 7th 2007 7:24AM
great you all can get your hands on it basically now and us here in the Uk still have to wait over a week and a half for it!!!

Called the Best Buy in Albany, NY & the lady just told me it comes out next Tuesday. I don't know if she just looks it up on the computer and there might actually be some on the floor. I might go check it out in person at lunchtime.
Trainwreck TV @ Nov 7th 2007 10:44AM
I checked the midtown Manhattan Best Buy, on 44th and 5th ave. The phone operator claimed it was in stock, but when I got there I was told not until next tuesday. Bummer.
Xlife @ Nov 8th 2007 1:10AM
All of my best buys are being really adamant about not breaking the street day. I guess that's a good thing since Gamestop is being so lame about letting me cancel my refund. When I get my money back I will never do business with them again. Nothing but hassles.
holmes @ Nov 7th 2007 11:29AM
i'm in manhattan too. i just tried the best buy on 23rd and 6th ave and near houston st on broadway and both did NOT have super mario galaxy out for sale.
Harry @ Nov 7th 2007 2:14PM
I just called the Best Buy in Dublin, OH and they said they have it on the shelf for 49.99. I'm heading up there after work to pick this bad boy up! I plyed the demo at GameStop last week and ZOMG so good.
the real mii @ Nov 7th 2007 3:28PM
anyone finding this happening in canada?
Gerwurztraminer @ Nov 7th 2007 6:08PM
I just went to two different Best Buys in the Miami, FL area and no dice.
Peter Tangney @ Nov 7th 2007 8:05PM
"...Know, also, that some have claimed to be managers at other retail locations Best Buy itself, stating that it isn't normal to receive product a week before release. "
I'm not sure I completely buy that statement. I work at a retail store, and they always receive new releases a week or so before they go on sale. At least that's how it is for movies.
Got to make sure you have them in stock for release day.
I also know that there are "Severe penalties for street date violations", says so right on the package for the display.
I'm not sure if that means fines or that they may not sell to that store again.
tony @ Nov 8th 2007 6:06PM
Where can i find the $25 TRU deal? I didnt see it on their web site. Do i need to preorder the SMG first?
thanks
Jordan @ Nov 14th 2007 11:28AM
At Target, we get them at least a week early. Sometimes we're forced by Nintendo to hold Wiis for a week or so before selling, because they set a date for them to go out.
