Cruis'n looks like Chewie, Baba Booey, and Hong Kong Phooey all in one
We've shown you trailers of nice looking games recently, so now it's time for one that's ... not so nice. In fact, Midway's Cruis'n is looking downright gross.
Many Nintendo fans have developed a "gameplay over graphics" mantra, but this "effort" by Midway just seems insulting. There's no reason that a Wii game should resemble an N64 game, unless it's on the Virtual Console.
Check out the official Cruis'n trailer above if you want to have your mind blown, in a bad way.

I can't believe Midway is blaming Wii for their consistent losses lately when they don't do anything to make Wii games better than 1.5-gen ago games
Gareth Williams @ Nov 4th 2007 12:13PM
Wow, now that's a horrid looking game.
I think the gameplay looks equally as uninspiring.
I bet no WiiFanboy readers will pick this one up.
Metal_Link @ Nov 4th 2007 12:15PM
Maybe it's because it's online? Naw, maybe they want to invoke some feeling of nostalgia with it looking like it did on the N64...
Um yeah, that's gotta be it.
radioioRobert @ Nov 4th 2007 12:20PM
Midway needs to retire. Crap like that makes Midway look bad (well how caould they look any worse?), but makes the Wii look bad as well. Someone on the fence about a Wii seeing that might buy another system, I hope the doesn't have the Nintendo "Seal of Quality" on it. This just opens up the door for 360/PS3 fans to dis on the Wii's graphic capability even though this is nowhere near the N64's capability. I hate shovelware.
radioioRobert @ Nov 4th 2007 12:22PM
Please excuse the typos in the above (hastily-typed) post, garbage titles just make me a little mad.
mark @ Nov 4th 2007 12:27PM
Bloodhound Gang? Really?
PzP @ Nov 4th 2007 4:41PM
See, I'm probably going to but this. I love the arcade game because it's entertaining in a stupid way.
dude7078 @ Nov 4th 2007 12:32PM

Exactly. No excuse for no effort. I doubt it will control well at all.
Evangelist Pinto @ Nov 4th 2007 1:18PM
Why can't nintendo just choose not to release games like those on their system? The library would be smaller but more impressive overall.
Evangelist Pinto @ Nov 4th 2007 1:19PM
I hope no one buys this game, although I think parents will for christmas. That must be it.
Soiden @ Nov 4th 2007 1:46PM
Well, the gameplay doesn't look too bad [Although looking my car do a 360º or 720º isn't very exciting], but I don't like very much the Cruis'n series. It's too simple and plain.
Now, about the graphics: Ewww...
Undead Priest @ Nov 4th 2007 1:47PM
I'd be embarrassed if I worked on this game.
Jonson?! @ Nov 4th 2007 2:10PM
hey look it's San Francisco RUSH!!
Mr Khan @ Nov 4th 2007 2:17PM
The opinion you'll find around here generally isn't as blunt as "gameplay over graphics" but rather "Graphic design > Graphic power" That is generally the excuse de jure for us Wii fans, the game should look good, but look good in a manner that can be qualified by, say, an art critic rathern than by a statistician (i.e. wii don't care if its 640p or 1080p)
This obviously violates both ways of "looking good"
mr_sauce @ Nov 4th 2007 2:58PM
This looks like bad for a DS game!!!
Archibold @ Nov 4th 2007 2:59PM
I don't know what you guys are complaining about. They obviously sacrificed a little bit on the graphics to put more of the Wii's power into that physics engine. That amount of realism takes a lot of power from the Wii's hardware. If you watch the video again, you'll see what I'm talking about.
B1gC72 @ Nov 4th 2007 3:11PM
made my eyes bleed...
looks like one of the arcade drivers at Wal-Mart.
Carlos @ Nov 4th 2007 3:15PM
yeah, bloodhound gand is awesomely funny! (at least the one fierce beer coaster album)
corbindallas @ Nov 4th 2007 3:38PM
This looks strikingly similar to "The Simpsons - Road Rage" on GCN. The Simpsons game was intentionally cartoony though.
Covarr @ Nov 4th 2007 4:07PM
In all fairness, this looks better than the Cruis'n games on N64, primarily because they were somewhat ugly for their time. The older Cruis'n games on N64 looked like Saturn or PS1 games, so it's no surprise that they make an effort for the new one to look even MORE outdated relative to the system they're on than previous entries in the series.
Trogdor @ Nov 4th 2007 4:33PM
I...I've gone blind. It's...So awful looking!!! And yeah, in regards to "sacrificing realism for physics" doesn't Super Mario Galaxy have a lot of physics in it? And guess what? It looks amazing! Not like this piece of crap! It looks like one of the earliest Playstation games! Plus, it's just more ammuniton for PS3 and 360 Fanboys to throw at people like us who own Wii's because we like having fun. Don't get me wrong; I've got a PS2, an Xbox, a DS and a Wii, sso I'm not a real fanboy. I just think that at the end of the day Nintendo gets the job done. Unlike Midway. They just need to die, by the looks of things.
babunar @ Nov 4th 2007 4:33PM
actually... this looks unbelievably similar to the coin-op fast n furious racing game.. anyone know what i mean?
Adam @ Nov 4th 2007 4:53PM
Haha at #16. Very funny, sir.
But seriously, I'm going to withhold judgement until I see the actual game in action. This video looks like it's been resized, optimized, and all other kinds of -ized before it hit these glorious Internets. It's certainly not Project Gotham, but then, it was never meant to be.
Croove55 @ Nov 4th 2007 6:09PM
When was the last time Midway made ANYTHING that looked good? If game companies were dogs, Midway is like the 25 year old mutt with splotchy fur, 3 and a half legs, and heartworms that sits in the corner and coughs all day. Of course, that makes Acclaim the pit bull that got dragged out back and shot when it had rabies, and then came back as a zombie and wanders the streets to this day, barely functioning.
Wow, North American game developers don't really have much power anymore.
Ben @ Nov 4th 2007 8:07PM
Forget Burnout Paradise, I'm gonna get this game!
haha, just kidding
FX-1 @ Nov 4th 2007 8:34PM
Mr Kahn at post 14 is exactly right.
FM @ Nov 4th 2007 10:20PM
It looks EXACTLY like a port of the arcade Fast and the Furious game. Oh,wait...

Rob Howard @ Nov 4th 2007 11:23PM
Well, let's at least wait until someone has played the game. I agree that it doesn't like pretty but I don't think it is fair at all to assume the actual gameplay is crap.
If there is zero clipping, lots of cars, and online play that is lag free, I think I can forgive the graphics.
yayoyayo @ Nov 5th 2007 4:44PM
omg want that game.. oh wait my n64 is broken :(
Ryan Hamilton @ Nov 5th 2007 9:20PM
OMG! It's 96 all over again! Apparently the designers of this game have been living a dark room for the last 10 years. Didn't anyone tell them that racing games have become more advanced? Apparently they're ignorant or haven't a clue what's going on in gaming these days. What's most insulting is how badass this ad tries to be, as if they assume we're screaming - WOW!!! DID YOU SEE THAT?!!!! lol!
