Capcom ensures a port-filled future with RE4

Capcom released a statement today congratulating themselves for the awesome sales of their Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition. They claim to have shipped over one million copies of the survival-horror game worldwide. Of course, 'shipped' does not mean 'sold', but we can at least assume that the majority of these discs have found their way into homes, unless Capcom 'shipped' a few hundred thousand copies into their own Sales Inflation Warehouse.

This should remove any lingering doubt as to the motivation behind the Okami port, since Capcom has discovered that old games can do excellent business on the Wii, while saving on annoying costs like development. We should look forward to the inevitable rush of PS2 and Wii ports, as companies mine every old game that seems the least bit viable. And also Ninjabread Man.

The only port left that I want is God Hand and they officially said that that one ain't happenin'.

Aside from that, I'm not sure how many other great games they have that they could port and still be reasonably sure it would sell. DMC 3. That's about it. I suppose they could bring over the other RE games, too.
I wouldn't mind a SSFII-HD port, either...even if it isn't going to be in HD.

This is actually very good news, IMO. Capcom said that they would base future Wii releases on the sales of RE4 versus RE:UC. The winner would decided what types of games the Wii would be getting. I'd rather get more games on the level of RE4:WE than Umbrella Chronicles, but maybe that's just me.

As someone who never owned a PS2, I consider this good news, but ONLY if those ports are accompanied by quality, new games as well. Zack & Wiki is a great start, so I'm not worried much about Capcom. They've made tons of quality games and I look forward to playing some of them for the first time. I vote to bring Devil May Cry to Wii (the whole series).

As for other companies, I hope they get the message too. Ports are OK, as long as they are quality games in the first place and as long as you also bring something new to the table.

I don't mind ports at all as long as they are done well. RE4 and Godfather were both done very well (Godfather could have used a little tweaking in the aiming, but otherwise it's great).

Meh, it's Capcom, so they pretty much have only good games to port, a lot of which weren't on GC at all

As Max said, they're doing this in conjunction with providing some great original content as well, so they are wholly forgiven

Killer7 might be pretty fun on the Wii... alot of the video had to be compressed because it wasn't on true DVD format like the PS2, so having that feature would be fun.

If I made a port of Killer7, I would also have a commentary or making of section. I don't know the plot of Killer7 is very complex, I'd love to hear Suda51 explain some of the aspects of it that more casual players of Killer7 might have missed the first time around.

I still say Resident Evil 2 needs to be remade on the Wii using the RE4 engine. I have always found it interesting that Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles covers RE1, 3, and zero as well as new content... but doesn't go over any portion of Resident Evil 2. Resident Evil 2 is seen as the cream of the crop of the series besides now RE4. I think the RE4 style gameplay would really work well in RE2 with the wall crawling Lickers and numerous amounts of Zombies in the cities.

Maybe we can hope for some of the other PS2 games besides Okami that we (or at the Gamecube) missed.

Devil May Cry (1-3), Onimusha, Shadow of Rome, God Hand, Maximo, etc.

I think the fact that RE2 does not show up in RE:UC(if I remember correctly) could be a sign that the game is being re-made for the Wii.

That is the last source of info you will EVER need on Killer 7 story info.

Kiiller 7 = heck yes. Especially if they did some anti-aliasing and some new texture rendering... actually, I kind of liked the way those made the game look. Maybe not. But some wiimote controls would rock. You could probably play without the nunchuck, which would be about the most pimp thing in existence.

A = run/shoot
B = Aim
Shake = turn around / reload while aiming
Pointing to the ground or ceiling = reload (if you feel like you have to reload without aiming)
Down (Control Pad) = Special
+ = pause

Scanning could be done with minus, but I think that it might be done better by blocking the front of the wiimote with your free hand (or aiming off-screen).
Everyone may now tell me to shut up, I'd be cool with that.

Perhaps I misused the term. I was referring mainly to the skin of the Heaven Smiles, as well as the fact that the textures of the ground are only visible when close, whereas they shift into gradients after reaching a certain distance from the camera.

I was pointing out that, with the slight graphical boost coming from the Wii, Capcom could fix these two problems. Really, though, it's part of the game's design, not a flaw, so I shouldn't have even started.

Resident Evil 4: Wii edition was amazing. It was well worth buying the game again (or in my case, for the first time).

I'm glad that Capcom are doing well on Wii. Okami, RE4: Wii, Zack and Wiki... they haven't set a foot wrong yet.

Of course the ports are doing well, they're the best value so far.
What would you rather buy?:
A) A $50 original game that you'll probably play through over a weekend. OR
B) A notoriously good game that is also notoriously long for $30.

I already have RE4 and Godfather and they were probably the best value I've gotten out of the Wii so far. I personally am looking forward to the port for Okami, Bully, and any other good game they want to port for $30.

Not only that but I really hope the third party publishers continue to port the better games from the previous generation (Like GTA San Andreas, Katamari Damacy, and Rez- which is really from a generation and a half ago (Dreamcast) but still holds up) to buy themselves time so they can flesh out some really good original games that I won't play through over a weekend.
