Rhythm N' Notes schools you in music

With the amount of training games available on the DS, it was only a matter of time before one involving music came along. Sure, there are plenty of rhythm-based games for the music lover in you to enjoy, but none of them actually teach you anything aside from which sunglasses go best with a red fro.
That's probably why the folks over at Agetec felt the need to bring us Rhythm N' Notes, which came out today for the budget price of $19.99. The game is designed to teach you about the technical aspects of music through interactive lessons with a piano and drums.
If you already think that time signatures and chords ain't no thang, Rhythm N' Notes isn't letting you off the hook just yet. Not only is this game designed for the musically inept, but it also has multiple difficulty levels for the more advanced musician. So now you're out of excuses to avoid this game ... unless you just don't give a damn.

Finally, I've been waiting for this game for quite a while, as it kept getting pushed back. As a musician, I'm hoping this will be good for ear training. I've always wanted to develop my ear more, I just needed a video game to come along to trick me into thinking I was playing a game rather than training myself.

I had no idea this game even existed. I just may pick it up! I bought a keyboard two years ago and learned some songs on my own, but I'm scared to dedicate myself in case I develop bad habits.
There's no listing on metacritic. I hope people who buy it will offer up some mini-reviews here. (I'm looking at you, folkie.)

Agreed, Xian. I hope someone reviews this "game" asap. Seems a pretty good companion to Jam Sessions or HM Music Jam. Add in the Homebrew DJ program posted yesterday(?), and it's only a matter of time before someone creates an album using only the DS as the sole "instrument". If I were musically talented enough, I'd give it a shot. Alas, I was not so blessed.

I doubt it will get very good reviews from IGN and the major sites, unless they happen to have some musicians around the office. I think the IGN preview said that it seemed difficult, as in the tone training was guesswork for them, and it would be for someone not already interested in music training. I'm fairly competent at theory, but tone recognition I need work on. I preordered this game at the local Game Crazy, but I don't think they will get in for a few more days. I'll try to write a quick and dirty review of my impressions from a musicians standpoint if nobody beats me to it, but it won't be for a few days.

I didn't know this game existed, either. This is the first I've heard about it. As a musician, I too am interested in this title. Looking forward to trouncing the tone training part!
Hmm..just checked GS and EB. They haven't even heard of it, nor is it in their system. I'll keep looking.

Bought this game and it's terrible. No real music training aside from ear training. They really needed to have some theory and actual note reading in this.
I finished the entire rhythm part of it in less than an hour. And the "name that chord" section is just worthless thus far.

That man speaks the truth. This game is positively terrible. Not only is it not fun as a training game, it also does not teach anything of use.
The Cords, and Notes trainers are laughable, and the Rhythm trainer is so tedious it's ridiculous.
