Fun fact: 1 DS for every 7 people in Japan
You know, we never thought about this ourselves, but the ratio of people to DSes in Japan is pretty amazing. With an estimated 127,433,494 people living in Japan and 18.11 million units sold in the country, it comes to about 1 DS unit for every 7 people. If you want to go by a different figure, VGChartz has the handheld selling 19.72 million in the area, bringing that figure down to 6.4.
When you break the numbers down to something more personal like this, it really makes the weight of the sales figures that much more significant, wouldn't you agree?

That does sound pretty cool, also when checking the amount sold of GBA's and SP's, they've sold a combined 22 Million in Japan -- so the huge number of sales isn't unprecedented!

Pictochat might actually be USEFUL over there. Wow, imagine opening pictochat and actually having about 10 other people around you using it too.
Also, Shiggy and Iwata really need to announce a release date for the DS counterfeiting machine. They could call it the USDS!
FantomRedux @ Oct 22nd 2007 2:46PM
Haha. USDS x9
Just wish I knew how many people live in the UK vs how many DSs have sold here. Probably be a lot less but still...

You ever think a large portion of these sales are purely designed for export to places such as Hong Kong and China where Nintendo has a very little presence there.
kendrew @ Oct 26th 2007 11:21PM
@jeff
nintendo actually has a pretty big presence in hong kong, from what i remember going there during the summer it was probably one in every 4-5 people on the subway were playing ds... so its pretty crazy... even the older people (like 45+) are playing it
