Nintendo shirts for the urban nerd
Clothing designer Torrel will debut their new limited edition Nintendo-based clothing line on November 15th at the Nintendo World Store. It's marketed as "urban", which seems to translate into "enormous all-over prints." Most of the shirts, hoodies, and jackets follow this design philosophy of HUGE ART, and of those, some manage to be kind of cool-looking, like the giant NES cartridge design. Others are just kind of garish, but hey-- we imagine there's an intersection of "people who like Nintendo stuff" and "people who like garish stuff."
Other items in the line manage to be somewhat subtler and more our speed. We think the Sub-con potion shirt is pretty great, for example, and we would also wear a Wild Gunman boxart shirt just because it's a little too weirdly obscure to get its own shirt-- and we support that.

Do you have to blow into the bottom of that shirt before putting it on?
Quaddw @ Oct 18th 2007 5:24PM
Looks more for kiddies rather than gamers, giant prints are not cool

I want a Brawl shirt like i want nothing else nonessential in the world (of course, terming the games themselves as "essential)
Make Brawl shirts, plz

Isn't ironic that the text in the bottom-right corner of the video says "the fresh movement.net" when all of the clothes are nostalgic.

@ Boone: nice.
Alternatively, they should print an arrow that sez: "Blow Here."
That'll get the ladies.

They aren't big because they're for kiddies, they're big because they're a part of that hideous 5XL-T-Shirt-That-Hangs-Down-To-Your-Knees brand of "urban" wear.

It really is a shame that they had to go the "urban route." Nintendo really seems to be unaware of their target audience. It's a shame too, because had a few of them not been six sizes too large, I would have liked them. Still, to each his own I guess, and I'm sure they will sell in a day.

I work as a professional T-shirt designer and this in my opinion look RETARDED! I get the whole "URBAN STYLE" I've created plenty of work in the urban apparel industry but this is not the way to go for such style...I'm surprised Nintendo gave the rights for this. SHAME!!

I am a professional designer not urban and I think these designs are great, where can I buy these product Nintendo you guys are the best.

All the comments are greatly appreciated. Though he line IS classified as "urban" the clothes are not designed NOR cut with a large fit at all. It is understood that the designs may not be for everyone, but please be aware that all the t-shirts jackets and hooded sweatshirts have been manufactured with "fitted" cut. Not quite a European fit, but certainly not baggy, over sized or or excessively long as some of you are under the impression they are.
For those of you interested in knowing more about the line your the response is greatly appreciated, and those who dislike our initial offering, maybe our next product offering will contain something more to your liking. We aim to create products that appreciate the games, systems, accessories and graphics Nintendo has consistently created and continues to create.

Torrel:
Thanks for letting us know about the sizing! I may have been flippant in the post, but I actually do like some of the designs (like the Wild Gunman/Urban Champion stuff and the big NES cartridge.) That Super Mario Bros. title screen hoodie is kind of growing on me as well.
Dark Lord @ Oct 18th 2007 11:35PM
whoa whoa! when did being a fanboy get confused as being a nerd? Anyway I love the shirts. I'd totally buy one.

Thanks for the input again, yes I know some of the designs are over the top, but those designs happen to float some peoples boat. If you do in fact like any of the styles based on the images, I am sure you will appreciate them even more once you have seen the product. Much attention has been made to quality and detail in each of these designs. I can honestly say that the graphics do the actual product any no justice, and I made the graphics. Please send me your contact information via the comment box on the website (i check these myself) so that I can inform you of updates and have you able to see our actual product, once it is available.

Hell I enjoy over-the-top as much as the next man but some of those aren't suited for me. Part of me feels something is off with that giant cart t-shirt but another part of me is ready to throw my hard earned cash at you for it with no thought at all. Great job Torrel. The only real question I have for you is, when is that catalog coming up? Word of mouth is your friend and I have a big mouth, atleast a little sample page would suffice for now, no need for formalities until you get your site fully operational.
I suppose my wore-torn Nintendo hat will suit me for now. It's a big controller on the top with "Roll Model" in text above it, in the was so not quite sure if that's all right but it's bombin'.
