Fix revealed for resolution issue on NeoGeo games
You know how we were having issues with the NeoGeo games on the Virtual Console? Well, someone on these fine internets figured out a fix, although it isn't as ideal as a system update from Nintendo would be. Still, it's not that difficult of a process and allows us to play our games. That's what's most important, after all.Here's the fix:
- Boot up your NeoGeo VC game of choice
- When it loads with the squished screen, hit the Home button on your Wiimote
- Head into the Operations Guide
- Once inside, plug your nunchuk controller into your Wiimote, then simultaneously press A+Z+1
- You should hear a sound, signaling that the Wii has been set to Interlace mode
- Enjoy.
[Thanks, Jason!]

what's "interlace mode" ?
Nushio (NDF - Blue) @ Oct 11th 2007 2:02PM
480i = Interlace
480p = Progressive.

Does that set your entire Wii to interlaced mode, or just the NeoGeo games?

What I want to know is, HOW THE HELL did they find that out? Are there more sneaky button combinations like that to do cool hacky things? Maybe A+Z+2 sets progressive?
MUST KNOW MORE!!!!

Thanks for the heads up. Kinda odd that this issue exist though....but since there's a work around its not really a big deal.

This really is unacceptable coming from Nintendo. In fact, I'm downright surprised at how such a horrendous glitch got by them. Thanks to whoever figured this out, but Nintendo should really get on the ball and fix this issue asap.
Though it's disappointing, so far they've been making decent progress updating the wii. Hopefully, they'll get to this sooner than later.
Now Nintendo, if you really wanted to make us HDTV owners happy...let's see at least some of the games coming out support 720p. You know it's catching on...heck, even in all your advertisements you show the wii being played on huge flat panel hdtv's.

Abscissa,
I believe it only sets NeoGeo games to interlace, because immediately after doing it, I jumped back to my Wii settings and it still had it set to 480p.
James,
Yup, that combination sets it back to progressive.

Or don't buy cheap, crappy HDTV's :). I have no problem booting any of those NEO-GEO games up.
