Confirmed: Smash Bros. Brawl delayed in U.S.

There's good and bad to the announcement, however. Nintendo doesn't usually delay games without reason, and as we said this morning, if Brawl needs to be fixed, we want it fixed. It gives us a little time to recover from holiday expenses as well. But it will probably eclipse the release of poor No More Heroes, and that's just sad.
Of course, if we keep getting dojo updates through February, we'll have seen the entire game by then.

GAME OF THE YEAR!!! 08'
Phil @ Oct 11th 2007 12:55PM
Well at this point it doesn't bother me because its going to kick ass, which will totally makes up for the delay.
Manny @ Oct 11th 2007 12:58PM
yup they are actually adding more stuff for the game =D
Sonic_13 @ Oct 11th 2007 1:00PM
In the words of Miyamoto:
"A delayed game is eventually good, a bad game is bad forever."
Now of course Smash Bros. would've been a great game anyway, but it was delayed for a reason. The extra time is only going to make it better.
(Game of the Year '08 is right!)

I really really had my heart set on playing this in December. :(
My biggest worry now is that, because they are now missing the 07 holiday season, they may want to "fix" it until holiday season 08, or nearto. Thats what they did with Metroid. . . I don't want to wait an extra year.
Sonic_13 @ Oct 11th 2007 1:09PM
They didn't do that with Metroid. August isn't close to the holiday season. Nintendo isn't going to delay a game unnecessarily for months just to get to the holiday season again.
The game will sell incredibly well no matter what time of year it is released, especially since the spring can often be "dry season" for game releases.

Sooo...we can basically except this game to come out sometime in April, right?
vidGuy @ Oct 11th 2007 1:49PM
I think we can accept it will come out when Nintendo is ready to put it out, whether that's Feb or next December, or in 2009. It's pretty much guaranteed that it's going to be the best selling Wii game, so why rush it?
I'm bummed but I can't be really sad, I have about $1000 worth of games coming my way at Christmas time.
3cubed minus 3squared plus1 @ Oct 11th 2007 2:28PM
This is good news.
It gives Mario Galaxy more time to shine and it deserves it.
Greg2k @ Oct 11th 2007 2:30PM
Yo DO know when this game will come out, right?
WHEN IT'S DONE

GAME OF THE YEAR '09
Powergloved Belmont @ Oct 11th 2007 2:47PM
Is this Duke Nukem Forever?
Rocketman @ Oct 11th 2007 2:54PM
They're too busy adding Konami's Castlevania Simon Belmont and Capcom's Megaman!
Archibold @ Oct 11th 2007 3:31PM
You did bring up a good point, though. The first thing I was wondering about was the Dojo. They can't possibly keep revealing relevant things until then. People were wondering how they were going to keep it going until the old release date. I hope they slow down the announcements (instead of every day) so that we are not getting tons of uninteresting information, or conversely, all the information about the entire game.
01 @ Oct 11th 2007 3:32PM
WE all saw what the year-delay did for MP:3. I'd be a fool to doubt you at this start Big N, but that doesn't make it hurt any less....
link123 @ Oct 11th 2007 3:46PM
hopefully during this delay time nintendo will add a headset for online chatting, instead of the taunt messages
Kyle Kowalsky @ Oct 11th 2007 4:21PM
Call Me an idiot for asking this, but, because it is delayed in the U.S., does it mean that it is delayed in Canada too, and, where else has been delayed, and for how long?
Dudeman22 @ Oct 11th 2007 4:47PM
Whoa! One day before my birthday! Talk about lucky.
Soiden @ Oct 11th 2007 4:25PM
Not neccesarily, I think, but considering Japan sees a delay too, I think it will be delayed in the whole world.
Mr Khan @ Oct 11th 2007 4:31PM
1. This makes me happy, i get time to play Fire Emblem & NiGHTS 2
2. This makes me sad, Brawl is delayed
3. This makes me happy, certainty is always a good thing
4. This makes me sad, being that this will take priority over No More Heroes, and i won't be able to get that immediately
so, yeah...
Kristian @ Oct 11th 2007 4:37PM
By all means, fix whatever needs to be fixed. Like someone said. Gives us more time to enjoy Mario Galaxy, No More Heroes, Resident Evil and get more training on the crossbow. But now I think Brawl and Mario Kart Wii will be head to head. Enjoy!!!
Nate @ Oct 11th 2007 4:47PM
I've got to finish Zelda:TP, Metroid Prime 2, and get and beat MP:3, as well as Yoshi's Island 2 and Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, then there's Mario Galaxy, which you better believe is now my game of choice for xmas. It just gives me time before I have to take a week off work to play Brawl.
Charcoal @ Oct 11th 2007 6:06PM
They're probably waiting until next year after all the hyped up fanboy reviewers give halo 3 game of the year.
Patrick @ Oct 11th 2007 11:29PM
I don't get how people are taking this so lightly. Nintendo confirmed this for December 3rd of this year and that is what I deserve. I been going nuts since the E3 trailer and I need this game. Nintendo should have known if they needed more times 2 months ago if they know it now. Look I don't have a huge problem with a game coming out later, just don't tell me one date then say "Oh sorry you gotta wait 2 more months" WTF!?!?! I know that people are saying things like "well nintendo wouldn't delay it for a reason" and the reason is they need more time to work. And I say you have had long enough. They know this game is going to be huge and they should have prepared. I love Nintendo but this is unacceptable. At least on Zelda (Twilight Princess) they didn't delay it after giving it an official release date. Sure they delayed from saying "Spring of 2006" or w/e, but never a confirmed date til Wii launch. I say Nintendo STOP F*CKING WITH ME AND GIVE ME BRAWL!

Well, don't be too quick to speak for all of us Patrick. :)
I can understand your anguish (and I assure you we've all been just as nuts about the game), but being pissed off about what's going on isn't going to make the game release any faster. That said, there's no real point in taking it anything *but* lightly. What are we going to do, not get the game? People and the article itself have brought up valid points about the somewhat "benefits" of the delay. It's hard not to be used to delays these days anyway. :/ True, it's not cool to give us an official release date and then switch it up on us.. But.. Sh*t happens right? ;p I think we'll all thank them later, with money of course.
Kyle Kowalsky @ Oct 12th 2007 12:06PM
has anybody even thought, but, maybe they need only the first month to finish it, and the extra month to make all the copies of it. Yes, it may be highly unlikely, but it is still a possibility. Besides, give them some credit. All those people are working their asses of to give us a good time. Other than the price paid and the love for the game, we can give nothing back, so, be patient. Like ppl have said, this should be an even better title than originally intended. Also, the possibility that they need to work on the graphics engine to make it look as pretty as possible could b holding it back. Or, maybe they might change the release date back to the original date on december 1. super-highly unlikely, but hey, it could happen. maybe this is all a marketing technique, to hype up the game
badboy007ing @ Oct 13th 2007 1:22AM
i think that theyll move the release date up a little bit like some time from middle to late January, i just find it hard to believe it would still take them 4 more months to complete this game i hope my theory is true. i hope they add a headset tat would be awesome!
Jordan @ Oct 14th 2007 12:55PM
You know you're kinda sad when you bitch about a game getting delayed two months. Sorry, but it's the truth. Now a year or something would constitute the complaint, but two months? Come on. Buy Fire Emblem or Guitar Hero or something.
That aside, it's fairly obvious at this point that the character models are done, I'm sure. In fact, I'd go so far as to say Nintendo went out and got the proper licensing prior to any development on the title, and the framework, levels, items, and characters are taken care of as of now. I'd say, however, that the online must still be quirky, and hell! I'd prefer a fluid and expansive online experience any day, no matter what the delay's length may be. Wouldn't we all?
Now, there IS the slight possibility that this will be delayed again (a la Twilight Princess and Corruption), but I don't think Nintendo's the type to backstab such a legion of affictionados more than necessary, especially when the game will sell the same amount almost completely regardless of what time of year it is.
There, I've said my piece.
Patrick @ Oct 24th 2007 11:48PM
(to people who targeted my long paragraph) I know "being pissed off about what's going on isn't going to make the game release any faster" but I can still be pissed. I know games are being delayed a lot these days, but this is Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Not some crap third-party game or something. And I do not speak for everyone (never said I did before), but I think some people would agree. Now I think that we should decide if they should delay. They need to tell us what they are doing to the game during the delay. If the update today (saying they just want to release it later to spread the games out) that is complete bull sh!t. Also to Kyle Kowalsky, they are going to use like a month or w/e to make hard copies the game but that would be the same if it came out December 3rd (November would be the now January). So they are getting 2 more months to work on it. I just can't take it. At least give me a substitute game. I know we are getting GHIII and Super Mario Galaxy (and Fire Emblem and others) but it is not enough for over 3 months of game play until Brawl comes out.
