VC Monday Madness video wrap-up 10/8/07
While normally we'd have some more coverage for you past the post break, we can't possibly do that for you. Sorry, but if you watched the above video, you'd understand why we couldn't play enough of each of the games to come to a determination as to whether they're worth downloading or not. Actually, as it stands right now, they aren't worth downloading until Nintendo has worked the kinks out.

I watched the whole video, and WOW- that is terrible!
With all of Nintendo's new-found success, you would think that they could emulate old games flawlessly, hehe.
27$ for all 3 games like that, ouch...!
David, in Japan- they had Neo Geo on VC for a few months now, did they have the same problem? I have never heard of it

Actually, no, they haven't (to my knowledge). That's one of the first things I considered, but checking the intertron has come up with nothing.

It must not be working on certain TVs because I have seen other gameplay videos that looked fine (is it not working on 16:9?). I'm sure Nintendo will fix it.

Actually, I'm not sure it's my TV's fault. Because when I play other Virtual Console games, the signal doesn't switch like it did in the video. But, then again, I'm not pretending to be the most knowledgeable regarding these things, so I just assume it's something to do with the emulation software of the Wii.

I have a Vizio Lcd too. World Heroes only works with av cables and remember to change the wii to 480i resolution.
It sucks big time that we have to do this but for now it works this way.

Really? I tried it with the A/V cables and it did the same thing. Maybe I have to fool around with some of the settings.
Wow, if this is the case for all NEOGEO games on the Virtual Console, Nintendo better come forth with a system update lickity-split.

I'm not near my Wii right now, but there are 4 possible screen settings right?
(4:3) - (480i)
(4:3) - (480p)
(16:9) - (480i)
(16:9) - (480p)
The NeoGeo games don't work in any of those combinations?

I have the composite cables and the games work great, except for the idiotic decision to limit continues to four in each game.

While this is exciting news for me, i still have bugs with VC that nobody talks about but really exists and Nintendo doesn't do anything.
Fact : when I play VC SNES/NES games on my HD ready w/ component cable, the game is displayed on the top half of the screen, so the image is streched and it's unconfortable to play.
I sent an email to Nintendo explaining the problem and they told me "this is a known bug, play with original cable". Wich i replied "so i have to switch the cable at each VC session?". They didn't reply. What about you guys? Did you experienced the same issue?
posted at Kotaku months ago that happened to be speculating about Neo Geo games on the virtual console. It seems others have had similar problems.

So it only supports interlace and not progressive scan. Switch back to 480i.

My VC games play fine on my 16:9 in 480p with component cables.

Sounds like your TV has a problem processing the signal, i dont see how this could be a software issue.

david. have you tried this with another tv? ANY OTHER tv? with symptoms like that (resolution incompatibility), the very first thing i would have tried would be to hook my wii up to a different tv.

According to my (Philips) TV, the signal is 240p (I assume the original 320x240 resolution). Sounds like an issue of the TV not being able to accept that input. I'm playing Art of Fighting fine on my 16x9 1080p set. Whether or not it should scale to 480p is another topic altogether...

ok, i just got fatal fury and it works perfectly fine on my 16:9 tv, it probably is just the resolution so just try the games on another tv, preferibly a slightly older one, and it should work fine

Do you have the official Nintendo component cables? When you were using them did you have the Wii set to 480p? When you went to the composite cables did you set it to 480i? Did you try both 4:3 and 16:9 with all of those permutations? Did you try all those combinations with another TV?

that's got nothing to do with his problem. have you ever tried playing a game from the SD card? it doesn't work. as in, it doesn't show up at all. so obviously the game is on the internal memory if its loading it all.

All the VC games download to internal flash memory. You still can't play directly off an SD card.

The reason that it displays ok when you press the home button, is that the Wii takes a snapshot of the current screen and then switches back to it's normal resolution(which your tv supports).
When you close the home menu it tries to switch back to the low res signal which the tv does not support.
I wonder how many tv's out there have this issue. Nintendo may have to end up putting an artificial border option on NEO Geo titles to bump up the resolution

Yeah it's definitely the TV, I've got one TV VC games work on and two they don't. This happens through 3rd party and 1st party component cables (but the same games work on all 3 TVs through RF)
I wouldn't hold your breath for a fix, people have been bitching about this since launch day.

Well, I'm afraid you're right. But I have the same problem and I don't have any other means of connecting my Wii than component, so what am I supposed to do? Can Nintendo just screw me over like that...? This is not about the image not being centered perfectly, the games are unplayable on some HD-displays. This can't be happening... :((

I have had no problems whatsoever with the VC until today. I downloaded Fatal Fury with some excitement that my Wii will be letting me play some Neo-Geo classics and what happens? Not a damn thing. Blank screen with the sound going. I have a 32 inch 1080i TV, running my Wii through component cables at 480p. Nintendo better do something about this because I am not going to say "Oh well" to nine dollars.
I love my Wii, but this is a matter that needs to be addressed ASAP Nintendo!

We had similar problems with the VC in europe, they have made a temp fix where you go into the game manual and press z+2 or something (You hear an audible 'ding' to confirm its done) this changes the output. Works on PAL games on my hdtv.
Might be that its not fixed yet on US VC, but it will be, especially since hdtv's are more comon in the us then in europe (i think)

Actual Neo-Geo AES hardware has a flashing problem on my good TV but not my older ones.us The reason is due to the flashing in the attract mode of a lot of games setting off the anti-seizure protection in newer TVs.
