Rumor: New Wii SKU to hit this holiday
According to an anonymous supplier, Codename Revolution has the scoop on a supposed new SKU coming to retail for the holiday season. Currently dubbed "New Pack," no word yet on exactly what this new SKU could mean. All we know now is that it has a UPC of "045496880088,″ which comes back as being owned by Nintendo.
Whether this is a new bundle (we're betting it's a bundled Super Mario Galaxy or Smash Bros. Brawl bundle, or perhaps one including the Wii Zapper), has yet to be determined. Don't hold your breath for a new Wii unit itself, as it's unlikely Nintendo will do a hardware revision to the console this early in its lifespan. Especially considering the popularity of the console as it is now.

Could this simply be the new DVD-playback enabled Wii that was promised to Japan this fall?
vidGuy @ Oct 2nd 2007 10:39PM
In all likelihood it's the Wii packaged with the new remote jackets. Nintendo announced yesterday that they'd be packaging those in a new Wii box within the next few months.

I'm with Vidguy on that one. I think he hit the nail on the Wii there.

It could easily be a black Wii, or some other colour. I mean, when the Revolution was first unveiled, it was black.

Christ, where did all these ads come from?
Adblocker didn't even detect them :(

The author "expects" it out for the holidays. He's guessing.
My money says it's a Wii Fit bundle due out next year.

How about their marquee product above Smash Bros., Metroid, and Galaxy, WII FIT! Seriously, they're aiming for another year of local news stories, USA Today, Time, Newsweek, and CNN stories about how Wii is revolutionizing the world. What better way then to pack in a new revolutionary interface, that they spent so much time at E3 on, because E3 is the time when they can reach non-gamers the best, if there's big news about Smash Bros., they can announce it any day of the year and everyone who's interested will find out. It's Wii Fit

Could also be a new color.
LeChuck @ Oct 3rd 2007 12:00AM
I also think it's the pack with the Wiimote jacket. But if not probably a pack-in game for the holidays. I would think Galaxy would be the most likely for that.

@#1: Good call.
I was planning on coming in here and saying something like 'Pshaw, there's no way that they would do something like this so early (especially since there's so very little to take away to the Wii save Wii Sports).'...but #1 got in a good point.

Yeah Wii Fit pack sounds like a good one to me - it's a PR dream, even if it doesn't sell particularly well it would be such a talking point. Could be a ho hum game pack or slight modification but Nintendo seem to have bigger balls than that and they're making all the right moves. Wii Fit and/or Zapper bundle for sure.
Sonic_13 @ Oct 3rd 2007 1:17AM
Good point. I think it could definitely have to do with Wii Fit.
JC Fletcher @ Oct 3rd 2007 1:23AM
I'm guessing two Wiimotes. :/
samfish (MSDF- Nurse Outfit!) @ Oct 3rd 2007 2:31AM
I'm guessing either a black Wii or possibly a Wii Fit bundle.
I think I read on GoNintendo that it was $289.00, so Wii Fit sounds about right.

I guess it will not have WiiSports. Because it is only what they can do. (But then N didn't started selling WiiSports separately... yet?)
Most likely also new H/W revision.
But doubtfully anything more.
And BTW about DVD playback everybody asked. Could it be the new SKU is just for that new unit? Because that make sense.
Or "Wii Leet" - with two WiiMotes, proper cables, the Zapper thingy and Zelda Bow Shooting instead of WiiSports?? Would look good to younger/teenage audience (like e.g. the blog or Joystiq) who doesn't even rate WiiSport as game. (I loved the WiiSport comment: "This is not a game!! This is joke!!!!! I beat it and unlocked all mini games in 20 minutes!!!!!!!" Something along the lines. LMAOed for good half of an hour.)

so many different angles here but its probably something a little more bog standard i.e. diff colour or now including the new wii mote cover.
i mean the machine is still hard to find on shelves so why bring out other packs to temp people to buy it considering they are all buying it still like hot cakes!
but it will be interesting to see what it actually is.

Eh, unless there's a hard drive or better HD output, I'm not terribly excited. I certainly don't need a DVD player on my Wii. I have a PS2, 360, PS3, laptop, and a DVD player for all that. Maybe Nintendo should get enough Wiis to the stores before they start making more SKUs. That's been the Wii's strength: simplicity. Let's not complicate simplicity.
New colors, on the other hand, would be awesome.

It has to be with the new jackets. I doubt it will be a bundle with a new game and not Wii Sports since it isn't sold without the Wii. Maybe a new color but I also doubt that since you can buy skins to change the color of the Wii. It will more than likely be something simple that will not affect anyone with a Wii already.
mark richardson @ Oct 3rd 2007 9:39AM
talking about wii sport, actually not really but does anyone know anything more on wii motors i remember back in jan this year it had been touted that it was in production.
like wii sports but instead of 5 diff sports you got 5 different vehicles. I did read that this may be turned into wii pilotwings thats out next year but last week i heard somone on some news website mention wii motors again so does anyone have any facts on it at all?
lu506 @ Oct 3rd 2007 11:16AM
it sounds like it will be the wii with the new wiimote jackets packed in.
DaiMac79 @ Oct 3rd 2007 12:01PM
How about a Virtual Console pack, with the Classic Controller and 2000 WiiPoints included? Put that at the 250 price point and drop the original package to 220-230 and Nintendo won't be able to meet demand even partially, IMO.
