Wii Warm Up: Concerns of corruption
What bugs us, though, is that the possibility of other games being corrupted is so high on the charts that re-downloading these games seems like a futile effort. So, what are we supposed to do? Wait until we feel like playing them and then decide to download them, right then and there? Sadly, yes ...
Any of you run into this problem? Has the data been corrupted on the Wii itself?

Yes, only not with an SD card. My Wii managed to corrupt my 1090 official Nintendo gamecube card. I lost all of my data for the 30+ games I own. Managed to earn a lot of it back on the spare 256 I had, but only on a handful of games, like SSBM and Timesplitters 3. Still sucks big time.

Flash memory needs to be formatted periodically.

One of the major problems with flash memory is that while it's fine when things read it, it degrades everytime someone writes to it. Eventually degrading enough so that it certain sectors can no longer be read...
The easiest way around this it to burn a master copy of your game on either a dvd or just keep on your computer as a backup

Probably a bad SD card? I do the same - move a few games a week probably - and I have 0 corrupted data. Strange.

This is definitely a bad SD card. Make sure to get one from a well known and respected brand (even if they are involved in price gouging) such as Sandisk or Kingston to make sure you get a quality product.

No problems here, but my guess are:
1- Just to many file manipulation
2- Bad SD card
3- A prank (Seriously, is this for real?)

Yeah, seeing as it's an SD card, I'd say just make a copy on your handy-dandy computer. Surely you've got the space, right? I periodically back up my PS2 saves using a data cable for the same reason (I learned a *very* valuable lesson about cheaping out on third-party memory cards once, and that was enough). I probably should figure out some way of backing up my 360 and GC saves as well, but those are by-and-large less important (and, in the case of the 360, probably a lot less likely to ever get corrupted).

I've never bothered to use my 512 MB SD Card, because i'm not going to use it until i get a USB-SD adapter so i can back it all up on my PC
The only thing that was corrupted was my SSBM file, which (fortunately) i had backed up on PC, the only thing i lost was about 2 years of vs mode statistics

I just had all my message center data moved back onto my sd card (which blows totally)
But i dont mind re-dl'ing VC games it takes like what 20 seconds?
just keep the huge file games on your wii and get rid of the lighter ones

I dont have any problems with SD cards but I did have a problem with my gamecube memory card been corrupted by my Wii.

My Wii's internal memory has had a corrupted channel that popped up out of nowhere right after 3.0U. I didn't lose any channels, "?" just appeared out of nowhere in the save data screen.

Like the poster above, croove55, my Wii torched all my save data on the gamecube memory card. It was even a Nintendo 1019 card I just bought a year ago. Lost tons of save data. I think its the heat from the WC24. I noticed the memory cards get quite warm. I'm sure that if the card is warm nonstop for year, it could jack your data. Major bummer.

I think the standby connection crap sucks! I've already had Nintendo replace my Wii once because of graphics glitches & dead pixles. Besides, who's buying a Nintendo Wii for news & weather? Not me.

The "?" channel that shows up after 3.0 comes after playing an online game. I think that Nintendo puts that one there when you first play a game online. It may just be something that is needed for the online component of Wii games to work. Everyone that I know got that one after getting that update. As for corrupted files I have not had a problem even when transferring saves to the SD card. I have yet to transfer an actually channel or VC game since I can download them again.

The ? channel that came after 3.0 is not from online games, it came as part of the update. Many speculate it's the new Mii channel or some other as yet unannounced new channel that could be actvated quickly with just a samll update.

The ? channel is way too small to fit an entire channel; considering it's 3 blocks (i.e. less than half a megabyte)

This is from the Nintendo site about the ? channel.
Files or Channels displayed with one or more "?"
The Wii console can detect unnecessary files that may be saved on the system. When this happens, these files are displayed as a question mark (or marks) in the Data Management screen of the Wii System Settings, or in the Wii Channels menu. Deleting these files will remove the question mark(s). There are no harmful effects caused by deleting them.
So it is safe to delete this one.
