TGS07: Snake in Smash Bros Brawl
Konami invited some lucky press folk who've been at TGS to sit in on a kind of Snake retrospective. Chronicling the career of the big guy, they even took some time to chat about his upcoming foray into the world of smashing. Kojima showed off Snake traversing some of the levels in Smash Bros. Brawl, as well as utilizing some of the game's unique items.

Hey, the little nose dude from Mother confirmed as a character (or assist trophy or whatever)!
Nushio (NDF - Blue) @ Sep 20th 2007 4:23PM
You mean Mr. Saturn, Rocketman?
He's been in Smash Bros since SM64 IIRC. Since Ness is from the same game. Its just an item, he might be transformed into a trophy though.

I don't recall Mr. Saturn being in the original Smash
but its good to see them re-confirm this character's presence. having not heard anything of him in Brawl, i was almost starting to doubt
almost

I'm still trying to figure out how Snake got into Super Smash Bros. seeing as Metal Gear Solid has never been on a Nintendo Console as far as I know. Anything interesting about this relationship that anyone could tell me?
Manny @ Sep 20th 2007 5:52PM
yea , snake been in the gamecube, which is a nintendo system lol, game is called the twin snakes
soulbreather @ Sep 20th 2007 5:56PM
well, metal gear 1 and 2 were on the snes or nes and hideo kojima asked for snake to be in melee but the game was nearly complete so he couldn't be put in so he got put in brawl,
and in one of the screenshots he's holding on to something, it looks like the flying turret camera things from metal gear solid 2, which is strange since snake, his moves and his stage are based on the nes/snes games

metal gear actually started on the first Nintendo system in like '87.. i think it only ended up on the playstation because the playstation was derived from the Nintendo 64 Disc Drive that Sony and Nintendo were working on together.. which gave birth to the Playstation.
AlgusUnderdunk @ Sep 20th 2007 7:39PM
Solid Snake's series, Metal Gear, has appeared several times on Nintendo systems.
Metal Gear, NES.
Metal Gear 2, NES.
Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes, Gamecube.
Strike Man @ Sep 20th 2007 7:48PM
AlgusUnderdunk, don't forget about Snake's GBC adventure too.
And let us never speak of the NES "Metal Gear 2" ever again...
Flaming360 @ Sep 20th 2007 8:44PM
I wonder what it would be like if sony and nintendo were still working together:/
Sensai @ Sep 20th 2007 9:43PM
@ Flaming360
Nintendo wouldn't be selling like hotcakes while Sony's selling like rockcakes.

as for snake, i think his final smash will have to do with REX, i was always trying think of the final smash for him last year, but seeing the new trailer of MGS4, he's in rex.. so wut u think, possible?
Manny @ Sep 21st 2007 3:46AM
It took a while but woo check the smash site and see SNAKE!!

Metal Gear started on the MSX, and then had a watered-down port on NES (you didn't even fight Metal Gear in it!).
Snake's Revenge had none of Kojima's influence in it. It is, overall, a pretty bad game.
The true Metal Gear 2 was also on MSX. Which was good, from what I've heard at least.
I think both are included with the Snake Eater promo. Not sure, didn't get it.
There were no 16-bit Metal Gear games. Series didn't resurface until Metal Gear Solid on PlayStation.
(Just a little bit on the history of the series)
Bidoof Protection Military @ Sep 21st 2007 4:16AM
Oh, and like Manny said, tonight's triple update focuses on Snake.
1) His profile
2) His specials (as well as some of his Smash attacks use weapons, too)
3) His stage music. Which, funny enough, comes from MGS4: Guns of the Patriots (the PS3 exlcusive where Solid Snake is an old man)

I wonder if soon before Brawl comes out, they'll put Metal Gear (NES) and Smash Bros (N64) on the virtual console, similar to "Metroid Month"
It'd be interesting to be able to compare the old Smashes to the new one like that... All 3 on one system, as the Wii can already play Melee...
