Wii Fit set to make your New Year's resolutions easier
When Nintendo said Wii Fit was set for release in early 2008, it looks like they meant it. Online retailer Amazon has the game-and-board bundle listed for January 1, just in time for all those weight loss resolutions. As rumored, it seems you can pick up the happy fun-time fitness aid for $69.99, which is considerably less than most pieces of multi-use workout equipment. At press time, Wii Fit is hanging around at #75 in Amazon's video game rankings, just ahead of the $600 80GB PS3 bundled with Motorstorm.
We assume that those of you who believe Wii Fit will singlehandedly kill the gaming industry and deliver its headless corpse to nongamers will be skipping this one, but anyone else interested? This blogger must admit that it seems like a nice supplemental workout tool, especially if extra space is fast becoming a hot commodity (as is the case in our house).

Is this cause you're expecting a new family member in February? I'm probably going to buy one and an extra Wii Body Controller.
steve @ Sep 5th 2007 3:11PM
i'm gonna get one. why not? it's cheap, looks fun and will keep my girlfriend from getting a FUPA.
troy @ Sep 5th 2007 3:26PM
I'm definitely getting Wii Fit as soon as it comes out, if it really IS Jan 1st (and what better way to capitalize on all those resolutions!) then all the better, as that is two months at least earlier than I expected it. BRING ON THE BALANCE BOARD!
Neal Eaton @ Sep 5th 2007 3:30PM
I will be picking up 2 of these so my partner and I can 'do it' together.
What a great way to ring in the new year...sweatin' to the oldies.
Now bring on the skate/ski/surf games...
Jared @ Sep 5th 2007 3:47PM
i still don't understand this game...it's called going outside...and exercising. why do people need a video game to get excited about being healthy?
Drew @ Sep 5th 2007 4:05PM
Umm... Considering everything in the States is -closed- on January 1st, how're you going to pick it up then?
THRILLHO @ Sep 5th 2007 4:04PM
always take amazon's early release dates with a salt of grain, or something like that...
x silence x @ Sep 5th 2007 4:15PM
That's a placeholder date. Even EBgames does that with games. DO NOT depend on that date at all. And like Drew says, who's going to be open on Jan 1st? I'll bet on a spring date.
samfish @ Sep 5th 2007 4:33PM
If they are releasing it on January 1st, then Nintendo truly deserves the Biggest Dumbass Move of the Year award.

Once Segway finally funds an Arrested Development game for the Wii featuring you as G.O.B. on two wheels--everyone will want one. "Just as useful as the segway for 1/100th the price".
But I'll be more interested once there's glovepie/OpenPIE support for the balance board (I don't think I can make myself say "body controller"), and I can task First person game movements/velocities to lean/extreme lean.
Rubang B @ Sep 5th 2007 4:42PM
I'll be picking one up. I think it's a great idea because it will keep track of everything for me. I'll just do reps until I'm tired and it'll show me my improvement to keep me motivated. I'm willing to work out, but I'm too lazy to write down my own stats, but I'm also willing to type long boring comments on Joystiq and the Fanboys. Figures.
Hirsbrunner @ Sep 5th 2007 4:59PM
What's the weight limit for that board? Has it been mentioned yet?
Be a shame if a big guy like me buys it, takes it home with hopes of getting in shape, steps onto the board and...
SNAP!!
Alisha Karabinus @ Sep 5th 2007 5:15PM
Yeah, it's probably a placeholder date, but it makes for The Funny.
And yes, hnlysoldr, I'm definitely going to be looking for lots of ways to lose the baby weight that a) don't make a lot of noise and b) don't involve much running around out in the cold or pawning the infant off on family members!
Peter Tangney @ Sep 5th 2007 5:25PM
I'll definitely be buying one. I have a feeling that the game itself won't be that amazing (think Wii Sports), but as with the Wiimote I think the Balance Board will have lots of potential .
Mr Khan @ Sep 5th 2007 5:41PM
I'm definitely going to look into it, as long as i see that there is some support for the Balance Board beyond Wii Fit
If this thing becomes a one-hit wonder, i don't want or need another paperweight
SuicideNinja @ Sep 5th 2007 6:21PM
"i still don't understand this game...it's called going outside...and exercising. why do people need a video game to get excited about being healthy?"
Exercise is boring for the most part. Including a video game to make it fun will make a HUGE difference. Playing games makes people forget that they are tired because they are being challenged in a fun way. It occupies the body AND mind instead of just the former (to put it simple).
I started exercising regularly, and even between online matches...but I STILL want this. It's probably one of the few exciting things for the console. I've wondered how no game company has successfully pulled this off before. I'm sure Nintendo will be the first gaming company to do it well.
Jeff @ Sep 5th 2007 6:17PM
I bet it's only a placeholder date.
Adv2k1 @ Sep 5th 2007 6:45PM
early jan would be great for this game. So that way all the gift cards could get people to buy this.
psyborg @ Sep 5th 2007 6:45PM
Yea, I'm interested in WiiFit but that has nothing to do with gaming.
Alisha Karabinus @ Sep 5th 2007 9:06PM
I'm with you, SuicideNinja. I always listen to music or watch something (with subtitles on) when I'm on my treadmill, but it's old and keeps getting louder, so I'm looking for something new to do just what you said: occupy my body and my mind (and for less than a new treadmill will cost!).
And outdoor activities are often limited by the weather... and my already-irregular schedule will probably only be compounded by the arrival of baby, so I doubt my history of not-keeping gym memberships will change anytime soon! So I'm up for anything that allows for quick, fun workouts, especially if it's affordable and doesn't take up too much space.
samfish @ Sep 6th 2007 1:43AM
I just bought a bike for exercising. Nothing like the wind in your face, I say.
Plus I feel like I'm actually doing something. I get bored on regular exercise equipment.
lovelain @ Sep 6th 2007 9:39PM
can't wait for wii fit! i'm not looking to lose weight, but i am out of shape. nintendo always finds a way to make something that's good for you fun and that's exactly what i'm looking for in this. hearing that price point is pretty nice too!
