And all the gamers say awww
No, no, we're not looking at the adorable baby. Okay, you can look at the adorable baby, but also observe the blurry yellow bits above the adorable baby. What could they be? If you guessed question blocks, you're the big winner! If nothing else, this craft project definitely sports an accurate title: this may, in fact, be the coolest mobile ever, but now we can't stop thinking of ways to expand on this theme. Controller cut-outs were suggested, but what about little character figures? Or better yet, tiny plushies! Gamer babies can learn to love Mario and company from an early age, right? Come February, this very blogger just may be testing that theory. Which means we might need a couple of these as well.

Gotta love how the Mario Cap makes everything better.
That said, I'm definitely building one of these for my kids. When/if I have any, in a distant future.

@HVNLYSOLDR THANK YOU, BUT YOUR REWARD IS IN ANOTHER THREAD.

NOW all the baby needs is to sign up on Joystiq so he can make good use of his Mario hat! :)
You can congratulate me if you want. I'll just be over here getting fat and eating pickles.
Mmm. Pickles.

To go with the question block theme there should be coins, mushrooms, fire flowers, vine, and starman.

This is just the first version of this project. After completing it, I realized all the other possibilities for other mobiles. The one problem with using different shapes is the difference in weight can throw off the balance of the mobile.
And the hat made me, the wife, and, to an extent, the boy (he laughs when I laugh) laugh our butts off.

Congrats Alisha and you too Will. I'm glad I can bring laughter to a baby.

I like the idea of the blocks being above the baby for jumping into. You should put other cranial-activated Mario items there, like the brick blocks and exclamation point thingers. They're all mostly square too, keeping the weight nice and even.

Congratulations!! Mmm pickles indeed... my mum ate a ton of pickles because of me. We expect pictures in February!

@zack: Yeah, on seeing this, the taller half said "if we make one of these, we have to have a countdown to the first time baby punches a block." I thought that was a pretty hilarious image!
Keep us posted, Will! We want to see how it develops! And thanks for congrats, folks. It's our first, so we're big ol' bundles of nerves and probably will be for the next five months.
