All this
talk about
Metroid Prime 3 made us want nothing more than to get reacquainted with the original NES
Metroid. Nothing against
Prime, of course-- it's awesome, and we look forward to getting to play it for real-- but this happens a lot. Hype for a new game always instills in us the desire to play through the whole series, or at least our favorite entry. These feelings are often stronger than our desire to play the
actual new game. Are you like us (in this one specific regard)? Do you ever get pulled towards the back catalog when you hear about a new game? Or is this just another case of this blogger's intractable retrogaming tendencies getting in the way of logical behavior?

I did it when Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door came out. I replayed the N64 game the week before. Now i'm replaying MP1, and MP2, so I can play MP3.

yeh, i do that all the time. i got metroid and super metroid on the VC (never owned the originals) when they came out in the weeks leading up to mp3. unfortunately, i've been really busy so i haven't gotten the time to play through them. gonna pick up mp3 today, though.

Freaking Super Metroid and MP2:E. I'm only 23% in MP2 and I have only beaten Kraid and Crocomire.

I wanted to finish MP2 before MP3 released, but that never happened. (Dam 9 Temple Keys... :P)
I think I did the same with Twilight Princess, playing OoT (Not Wind Waker).
I also want to go out and get a points card so I can get Super Metroid, just because I haven't played it on an actual console yet.

SAME STORY HERE METAL_LINK EXCEPT I AM AT THE LAST BATTLE AND I THINK MOST GAMERS DO THIS RITUAL AS SOME ADVANCED MIND TRAINING.

That's how it happened with me
I wanted to buy Metroid Prime, but to familiarize myself with the franchise, i bought Metroid II for the only platform i had with a Metroid title (i didn't get into gaming until the N64/GBC/Saturn), i made it a point to beat Metroid Fusion so i could unlock original Metroid on the Prime disc, and made it a point to buy Super Metroid

all month I played past Metroid games until of course i finally got MP 3. I've only gone back to play some more super Metroid since.

I got bit by the Metroid bug. I DL'd Super Metroid off the VC and played it. I then played Zero Mission on my GBA. I started playing Fusion, but MP3 came out the next day. My MP3 play clock says I've put about 6 hours into the game. I'm loving it!!! It took me about 2 hours to get used to the controls though. Now it is like second nature.

haha Same with me! I was so determined to beat MP2 first, and as quickly as possible so I could dive into MP3. It was all going smoothly and then:
I got the echo visor... played about an hour past that... died... realized I hadn't saved since BEFORE getting the echo visor... brain shut down... brain rebooted... began MP3.
Fist Drark @ Sep 2nd 2007 2:14AM
Oh yes, I also played through first Metroid, Super Metroid, and Metroid Prime.
genocidalrobot @ Sep 2nd 2007 9:50PM
right now I'm trying to finish up Metroid Fusion, then I plan on tackling Metroid Zero Mission, Super Metroid, and finishing Metroid Prime. I am really, really bad at finishing games but I'm determined to at least finish these before I pick up MP3.
I swear I'll finish them this time, I swear!
Kabobrocks @ Sep 2nd 2007 11:42PM
I did end up playing Super Metroid on VC a few days before launch of MP3 and then I played Metroid Fusion whenever I was around and I had my GBA
