Spoiler alert: Mario Galaxy deets

One of the worst parts of our job is that if we find particular information to report on a high-profile title (like, say, Super Mario Galaxy), we must first gain that knowledge and process it through our own brains. This causes us to retain the knowledge, therefore ruining the experience to come for us. We will not go in pure. But, it's a sacrifice we make for you, fine reader. We'll suffer just to make your life easier. We'll do it gladly.

So, if you're not one who enjoys having information on something before you can experience it yourself, turn away. Thar be spoilers, ahead!

Gallery: Super Mario Galaxy

First of all, the Fire Flower and Super Star items are coming back. Mario will be able to shoot fireballs for the first time since his jump into the 3D arena. No word on whether Mario will be wearing his traditional fire-tossing garb.

Also, as far as the story goes, Mario, Peach and gang were watching a passing comet when Bowser crashes the party. After waking up (we don't know why Mario goes unconscious), Mario is confronted by Rosetta and asked to help. The story will then take place over 6 different zones, with 40 different galaxies to explore.

I take it that galaxies are levels and zones are like levels of the castle. I'm very interested to see how they implement the level selection in this game. Mario 64 did it in a very clever way as did Sunshine.

...Now if only we can get a Mario SIDE-SCROLLER on the Wii.

...That is, besides Super Paper Mario. Super Paper Mario is nice, but it's still an offshoot series, not a core Mario game.

I think this might end up being considered one of the best games ever. Not only because of the glowing reviews its gotten up to this point but because it's also bringing back every classic Mario element.
Now if you can just play as Luigi...

That's one of the things that pissed me off about that game

New Super Mario BROS, yet you had to unlock Luigi (whom i prefer, because of the jumping and loose controls)

what about super smash bros melee? he could shoot fireballs back then, so this wouldn't count as the first time shootin' fireballz in 3D.

Did anyone miss it, but in the "spoiler" they said they are bringing the fire flower AND Super Star back. Invincible mario is back! And costums too! Bee and Boo... and even more!

Its going to be like Super Mario Bros 3 in 3D, in different Galaxy's, without the Koopa kids!

Luigi wasn't exactly difficult to unlock, though. You didn't even have to finish the game first, just know what buttons to press to play as him. I got the game the day it was released and figured out how to play him before I even started my first playthrough. It wasn't exactly a secret that he was in the game.

But yeah, I'd love to hear that he's making an appearance in Galaxy. Hopefully playable, but honestly, I'll take anything rather than having him left out completely.
