VC Monday Madness: Meeeeeeeeeeetroid!
Finally, those who desperately craved the adventures of a female bounty hunter can have their fix with her first adventure this week. As earlier reported, Nintendo is making available the first Metroid adventure today, with Super Metroid releasing next week. This week's other releases? They include:
- Metroid (NES, 1 player, 500 Wii Points)
- Shining in the Darkness (Sega Genesis, 1 player, 800 Wii Points)
- Cratermaze (TurboGrafx16, 1 player, 600 Wii Points)

You know, I've never actually beaten the original Metroid...maybe it's time. I did beat Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion, Metroid: Zero Mission, and I love Metroid Pinball.
I never got into Metroid Prime, mainly because I'm a git with the dual analog setup. I will be playing MP:3, though.
Gosh, I love the Wii.

Thanks for visiting.

Oh, and Nintendo should really consider remaking Metroid II: Return of Samus. How could would that be for a WiiWare title? I'd buy it at $10.00 for sure.

At what time is it actually going to appear on Wii Shop? Maybe it's just me, but it isn't there.

OMG, "Shining in the Darkness" and Metroid! Best VC day, ever.

Good news, RD, Metroid Prime doesn't use dual analog. The C stick is used for changing weapons (or visors if you want it that way), not for aiming. You use the L trigger to lock onto and strafe around enemies or the R trigger to stop and look around/aim at objects.
Dual analog would have been impossible on the GC because you'd have to use a trigger to shoot and the GC's triggers aren't responsive enough.
Anyway, I've heard Metroid is really hard (as most NES games were), so I think I might be waiting for Super Metroid.

It's just that I've already got Metroid in Zero Mission. Still got to beat it without NAR PASSWORD or JUSTIN BAILEY.

vidGuy, thanks for the information! I guess I never really gave MP a good go. I just assumed that since it was on a console, it would be dual analog. Shame on me!
Maybe I should pick up a copy and play it up a few times before the release of MP:3?
I love this Web site, and the forum users. Very collaborative stuff, indeed.

"Maybe I should pick up a copy and play it up a few times before the release of MP:3?"
Um yes? :) That's what I am doing, and a lot of others are playing through 1 and 2 as well. It's a trilogy, you'd be able to enjoy MP3 but you probably wouldn't understand the story without playing through 1 and 2.
They both offer about 30 hours of play, so you've got a lot to enjoy yet! You can pick them up used for $5 and $15 or new for $20 each.

I may be wrong, but isnt every other NES VC game 400 Points? Why is Metroid 500?
adam @ Aug 13th 2007 12:21PM
Strike that, I guess they are all 500 points. I dont know why I thought they were 400..
Almadi @ Aug 13th 2007 12:24PM
Next week: Super Metroid.
So I guess there won't be any other high profile games next week. I was hoping that I would be able to play Sonic 3 this month.
No Sonic 3
No Shinobi 3
No ESWAT
No Ghouls 'n Ghosts
Should have bought a Japanese Wii.
Almadi @ Aug 13th 2007 12:25PM
@ adam:
Maybe because they are hardly worth 400 points?
RD @ Aug 13th 2007 1:17PM
Good stuff, vidGuy. With a wife, 3 year old at home and full time school/work, I doubt I'll have time for two 30 hour games. Dang.
Is there somewhere I can read about the story line? Worth a shot!
vidGuy @ Aug 13th 2007 2:29PM
It's even better than that. Gametrailers has a retrospective that gives you the storyline and some background on all of the games in the series. Watch part 3 for the info on Prime and Prime 2, but be warned, watching it will make you REALLY want to play Prime! :)

Is anyone actually going to buy Metroid? I assume everyone who wants it is for the anticipation of MP3... but if that's the case, then those players like myself should already have a copy of Metroid Prime and thus have a copy of Metroid. I don't know if I'd buy it since I already have two versions of it (MP and Metroid Zero Mission)... but then again I have 4 different copies of Super Mario Bros and I still got that...

Nice. Shining in the Darkness rules.
