Nintendo wins prestigious awards at G-phoria
In case your G-Phoria watch party got too loud for you to actually hear the winners, a GoNintendo reader wrote down all the Nintendo wins and sent them in. We had our G-Phoria Scorecards all ready for the big show, but at the last minute our traditional Adam Sessler-shaped G-Phoria cake fell apart, and we cancelled the gathering out of shame. We still had to pay for the auditorium, but we think we made the right decision. Here are the winners (good luck on your betting pool!):
Best Sports Game: Wii Sports
Best RPG: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Stride's Longest Lasting Game: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Game Most Deserving of an Uwe Boll Movie: Red Steel
Oh, G4 and their hilarious comedy awards. Zelda's not an RPG!

"Zelda's not an RPG!"
Careful, you'll bring out all of those "It is so too! ...technically!" weirdos.

Is zelda an RPG? It sort of is, well, it IS more RPG-like than any other adventure games, but the degree of RPGishness(lol)varfies from title to title, both Wind Waker and Ocarina of Time are more RPGish than Twilight Princess, though.
Irit H @ Aug 9th 2007 11:32AM
Sorry about typos in that last comment i meant to say "varies" not "varfies" and "game" instead of "games"

Zelda isn't really an RPG, but it is considered one by some people.
I would call it one. Its more of a puzzle/adventure game.
Patius @ Aug 9th 2007 1:10PM
I meant not call it one.
It's not an RPG. Sorry about that.

It's as crazy as calling Metroid a First Person Shooter.

"It's as crazy as calling Metroid a First Person Shooter."
Metroid is more FPS than Zelda is RPG =P
Fullmetal Salchemist @ Aug 9th 2007 4:31PM
At number 6:
Was that sarcasm? Because Metroid (despite what PR people tell us) is a FPS. It's a game where you shoot things in first person.
Mr Khan @ Aug 9th 2007 4:34PM
Genre seems to be less-and-less relevant in the modern day
Hell, check out Smashbros.com, they call Brawl an "Action" game, when everyone and their grandma (except the "why doesn't it have a healthbar?" chauvanists) would consider that a fighting game
Abscissa @ Aug 9th 2007 4:45PM
Haha, "prestigious" and "G-phoria" in the same sentence! (*rolls of chair laughing, continues for half-an-hour, finally regains composure and wipes a tear from eye*) That's almost as funny as combining "respectable" with "SpikeTV Video Game Awards".
Abscissa @ Aug 9th 2007 4:53PM
People seem to forget there are two types of RPGs: action RPGs and menu-based RPGs. (Of course, you could also divide into SRPG vs. MMORPG or Japanese RPG vs. American RPG (The American ones are almost always Tolkien/D&D-inspired for some odd reason.))
So yea, Zelda games obviously aren't menu-based RPGs. But they *are* action RPGs (or at least they always were back in the 2D world).
Lewis @ Aug 9th 2007 6:11PM
Yeah metroid is a shooter in first person, and Twilight Princess is a game where you play a role. In that way every game is an RPG
psyborg @ Aug 10th 2007 3:38PM
Metroid Prime is a First Person Shooter, just because its not simple halo-like linear run'n'gun gameplay doesn't mean its not an FPS. Look at Stalker, Bioshock, System Shock, SWAT4, etc alot of FPSs are more than just shooting like MP.
