Latest system update now hates homebrew, too
Yesterday's Wii system update has been quite the mixed bag. For some, the added keyboard functionality is a great new feature, along with the Virtual Console download information, but for others who enjoy imports, the system update has been the bane of their existence. Now, word hits that the update has killed SD Media Launcher functionality.
While we haven't seen much on the homebrew scene for the Wii, it looks like those who enjoy completely legal homebrew are left up the proverbial creek without the required paddle.

Eventually they'll come up with a Wii downgrader, or something like it
I wouldn't see why not, except for the fact that Wii homebrew community is very much niche, and really not necessary since the Wiimote can work with PC, and the DS and PSP are so much more viable

Pirates wore eye patches for night vision. I wonder how I can turn that into a video...
And yes it makes much more sense to homebrew on PC where they don't have restrictions.

Hmmm, bad news for some....
Hey, on a brighter note - I noticed that my new Wii "digital" clock is properly centred and not off-centre like the on in the photo above....how odd.

@ Gareth
Its looking like different people got affected differently by the system update, some of them got a dummy channel, some of them got WiFi system errors, and some of them got cooler looking clocks than others

I guess it sucks if you don't have homebrew alternatives, but there really isn't much you can do on a Wii that you can't do something else in terms of homebrew.
And if you want emulators, there are much better platforms with proven results.
The whole import thing does suck in a very real way, though.

On a slightly different note, yesterday I saw an "Xploder" cheat disk for the Wii in town. It was advertising the fact that it had cheats for TLoZ:TP and Resi 4 wii, and also cheats and save files for VC games.
I never did understand how the Freeloader and ActionReplay work as surely if they didn't use a dev-kit, it must be homebrew, yet noone else ever got homebrew that advanced, right? And they need SD cards and codes and adapters, so why not ActionReplay? The only other fesible option (to me) is that Datel have a dev-kit, but if that is so, then why would Nintendo not ask them to give it up after they found out that Datel did not intend to create games with it?
Anyway, I imported an American Animal Crossing, back when England was never goint to get it, my only import game ever. My version on AR didn't work on Wii from the start, so i've been using that "eject the disk, shove another one in really quickly" method to get it running. You know; the one that was posted on Joystiq (probably some time last year)..
