Taito announces Arkanoid DS, special paddle included

Those boys over at Famitsu are at it again, breaking news that Taito Corporation will be bringing its much loved and often ported classic, Arkanoid, to the Nintendo DS. It's currently set for release in Japan on December 6th, and from what we can tell will also include multiple game modes like Quest Mode (which will presumably involve you heroically piloting your space paddle to save a princess from the evil clutches of Doh).
But what really tricks out this otherwise mildly noteworthy release is that Taito will include a special controller reminiscent of classic arcade paddles. The paddle will plug into the GBA cartridge slot below the Nintendo DS and come in four DS Lite-friendly colors. Nostalgia Get!

This is the best DS news day ever. All Breakout-style games after the NES Arkanoid have suffered from the lack of a real Arkanoid controller. If this is good (and if it works in a regular-style DS) then I can retire my NES Arkanoid controllers. Well, not that I would. But I'm certainly ready for a new one!

Wow this is great. As JC always points out, I too, am clinging onto my original DS. So I really hope that it works in the Phat's GBA slot. If so, this is a buy.

I wonder if they could hook up a liscencing deal with Atari/Hasbro and get Tempest on the same cartridge :)

I agree that Tempest is a must now! I'd be more than happy to overpay for it.

I used to maintain the machines years ago and I always played it.

this is very cool! and like the poster above noted, perfect for tempest! since the atari collection completely borked the controls.
