E307: Contra 4 video wins E3

If your face hasn't been sufficiently rocked by the DS showings at E3, then we suggest watching this video of the first boss battle in Contra 4. Even if you feel like you've been rocked enough, you should go ahead and watch it, and allow Virt's brilliant cover of the Stage 1 music to rock your face clean off.
No brains are being trained here, people. Unless you count the brains of alien soldiers, which are being trained to blow up. We know it's early to declare a winner of E3, and we also know that E3 is not technically a competition. Even so, Contra 4 wins.

I was really hoping for something less like the original and more like Contra 3. Oh well. I'm sure I'll still like it anyway, though.

Ok, I'm just not getting what's so amazing about this game... seriously - it's a port/sequel/whatever of an old side-scrolling shooting game.
It looks to be a pretty generic example of one to boot, and the graphics don't look like they've been particularly worked on since the 90s or whenever.
Woop-dee-doo. If we're going to port over these kind of games, give us some Metal Slug - at least that had personality.

Psst, Kefka... that's why JC likes it. It looks retro. >.>
Don't tell him I said.
(I still think it looks like a hell of a lot of fun, personally.)

yeah i dont get why everybody raving about this game either. it doesnt look like too much fun at all allthough i like some of the graphics.
but anyway i agree GIVE US SOME METAL SLUG! how bout an extra hardcore version with only one difficulty setting thats so pervertedly hard it would make hitler cry?

Looks like a direct rehash of Contra 1/NES. BFD. Nintendo DS bored me, I liked the GBA much better, this touch screen crap is innovative but isnt a paradigm shifting thing like WII.
Yes, it would be mice to get Metal Slug and other ridiculous SNK/Neo Geo style super crowded blowup fests.
Also, lets get a new Kid Icarus , that would be perfect for the dual screen DS.
See why that video sucks, look at this:

They kept the original song and graphic and made it better while keeping it retro... I love it. Nostalgia is a mean bitch!

Look, I think Metal Slug is great too. Can't we have more than one run & gun series? We have like 4000 WWII first-person shooters.

No offense, but from what I have read and such about this game, it seems way overrated and this is comming from a Contra fan. Like others have said, this just likes a rehash of the first three Contra games plus a pinch of Bionic Commando. I mean the video interview posted on this site a month ago shows how the producers went on and on about how good the first three games were and tried to emulate it. It seems like they emulated too much rather than intregrating it with new elements. The guy giving the interview even criticize the graphics, saying it is a bit worse than some GBA titles. I know graphics isn't important, but after seeing how the gameplay is similar to Contra 1, it seems like the producers didn't try so hard in making this a "True" sequel like they claim it to be. Seems like they are putting everything on Nostalga. Nostalga is cool, but it didn't make Contra as popular as it was. I mean each Contra game added something new rather than copying a bunch of stages and such from precessurs. However, we only seen two levels in motion(this and the water lvl) Only time will tell if this game is a winner or a sinker.
I may be a bit bias since the producers in the vids bashed shattered soldier and are throwing the game, as well as Hard Corps. out of canon. True, the awards and such to get the good ending in Shatter Soldier is a bit lame, but it is the game that brought back Contra and it was quite fun to play. Throwing it out as if it never existed and bashing it for not being like Contra 1 doesn't seem right. Just seems arrogant to me.

Also, correct me if I am wrong, but didn't the producers said that they are doin somethin new like adding new things on old bosses like that wall having a botton area? If they said it was, then it was done before with another 1st level boss. In shatter soldier, the turtle from Contra 3 returns, but now fights you with his otherside after you destroy his turtle side.

"it's a port/sequel/whatever of an old side-scrolling shooting game."
Correction, THE side-scrolling shooting game. This game of course will score much higher with anyone who played on the NES.
