Possible Guitar Hero 3 prices revealed, Wii fans somewhat less gouged
If EBGames is to be believed, the prices for Guitar Hero III have been released, and they're all too expensive. The Wii version has the lowest high price, at only $90. The PS3 and 360 versions have the de facto $10 Next Gen tax applied to them, making them $100 each.
We totally get what Activision is doing here. They're upping the musician-simulation aspect of Guitar Hero by allowing every player to experience realistic poverty! That's the only explanation for the price bump for a game that is as cheap to develop and profitable as Guitar Hero.

Everyone wants wireless guitars, don't they. But they're ready to bitch about the price they've gotta pay. You can't have it both ways people.
Falk @ Jun 22nd 2007 7:09PM
Next Gen Tax! Still laughing...
100bucks would be OK with 2 guitars...
hvnlysoldr @ Jun 22nd 2007 8:24PM
If it somehow connects to the wiimote I'll look at it.
Michael Baker @ Jun 22nd 2007 8:26PM
Odd, the PS2 version is also $10 more than the Wii version. I hope that there's nothing left out of the Wii version that's causing the price difference.
MC2442 @ Jun 22nd 2007 9:08PM
exactly if there gonna come with wireless guitars (50.00 - 65.00) then 90 - 100 $ is the regular price
pacatak @ Jun 22nd 2007 9:15PM
Well the ten dollar difference might be explained by the Wiimotes ability to plug into the wireless guitar, hence eliminating the need to have a transmitter in the Wiitar.
Collin @ Jun 22nd 2007 10:39PM
What do you mean they're too much? The game costs $50 for Wii and $60 for PS3 and Xbox 360. That means that the wireless guitars cost $40, the cheapest wireless guitars yet. You're paying ten more dollars than GH2 bundle for 360 because you're getting wireless.
I do believe there is something wrong with PS2 pricing though. I believe that's just a mix up and will actually end up being $90 in the end.
This is incredibly priced appropriately and correctly. What went through your minds that thought this was incorrect?
hvnlysoldr @ Jun 22nd 2007 10:51PM
That no Wii game is priced higher than $50, crappy fishing rod aside.
Gordon @ Jun 22nd 2007 11:37PM
I dont care if its a better deal then gh2 collin gh3 on Wii is STILL way over priced im sure they could still make profit if they made it $80 or $70. but I guess that wont happen since they know they are gonna sell lots even for too much monies...
Collin @ Jun 23rd 2007 12:55AM

How is it over priced!? It's a brand new game so it costs $50, and you're getting a brand new wireless guitar peripheral for $40. That is completely 100% accurately priced. This article is for shame.
JC Fletcher @ Jun 23rd 2007 1:21AM
"For shame?" That's going too far. You guys act like you can't see how $100 is a lot for a damn game. It was as low as $60 on the PS2, and wireless controllers DON'T COST THAT MUCH.
Collin @ Jun 23rd 2007 1:51AM

I already addressed that I believe something is wrong with the PS2 pricing, but what do you mean controllers don't cost that much? A Wiimote costs $40, and the Wii guitar peripheral costs $40. Guitar basically has to do same things as Wiimote besides motion, so I feel that's perfectly priced.
An Xbox 360 cost $40 too, and you're getting that in the form of a guitar controller. Everyone paid $30 for the controller in their GH2 360 bundle, yet people are whining now because the new wireless controller is $10 more?
JC Fletcher @ Jun 23rd 2007 1:55AM
Do you work for Activision? Why else would you so adamantly defend the taking of your money?
You sound like Kutaragi.
Collin @ Jun 23rd 2007 1:58AM
No, I'm just a 15 year old kid who really doesn't see a problem in paying $40 for a new guitar controller for my Wii. I payed $80 for my GH2 bundle with a wired controller, and I don't have a problem paying $90 for a brand new bundle with a wireless controller.
Charles @ Jun 23rd 2007 2:33AM
This is due to, as many here said, the fact the Wiimote will probably plug-in to the guitar making them eliminate 3 things: the start and select buttons, the wireless component and the tilt sensor.
Directive0 @ Jun 23rd 2007 9:40AM
I got a great solution! Too expensive? Don't buy it!
Eric @ Jun 23rd 2007 10:19AM
Now the Guitar Hero rock stars can know what it's like to be a real musician... it's an expensive hobby. I'll be buying my $600 Epiphone Casino soon- I'm lucky that John and George didn't buy expensive guitars, or getting that sound would be impossible for me.
I'll buy Guitar Hero 3, don't yell at me for saying things about "real musicians."
X_Arre @ Jun 23rd 2007 11:15AM
If the guitar indeed plugs into the Wiimote then there is NO REASON it should be $40
They don't have to make wireless components, or even put in a battery pack. $40 would be WAYYYY too much....
That is assuming, of course, that it plugs into the wiimote.
Ninegauger @ Jun 23rd 2007 12:14PM
It may be cheap to develop but do you really think that the licenses to these songs don't add up pretty quick?
MJS @ Jun 23rd 2007 12:29PM
While GHIII may be "cheap to develop," it still an expensive game when you have to license 50+ tracks. You also got to consider they're going to progressively license more expensive songs with each sequel because better songs cost more money.
But the bundle sort of defeats the purpose of it when it's the same price as buying them separately. But the Wii version doesn't necessarily need an accelerometer which would potentially make it cheaper.
jman @ Jun 23rd 2007 2:06PM
Ok so i was kinda angry about the price until i read Collins post...we are actuallt getting a pretty good deal...i mean i payed like 60 alone for just a wiresless guitar for guitar hero 2...but i guess everybody didnt buy a wireless one so they wouldnt know....
Gordon @ Jun 23rd 2007 9:52PM
Still seems pricy to me I mean they should have alittle bit of a price drop for having the controller bundled with the game, Im sure it doesnt cost alot to make those controllers anyway. Directive0 Thats a good plan.
Brian @ Jun 24th 2007 6:49PM
Didn't Guitar Hero II cost $80 with guitar?
I will never pay $100 for this. NEVAR. I don't even think I'd pay $90
sushil bhatia @ Jul 8th 2007 9:54PM
it may be a bit overpriced but i still think it will be worth it in the long run. i mean, there are some new features like battle mode and online play, so its not gonna get boring fast or anything. for u guys who are complaining, DONT BUY IT!
thatonegirl @ Aug 7th 2007 10:50PM
You guys really have too much time on your hands. Or have no lives whatsoever. You arguing about a VIDEO GAME. If you think its overpriced, dont buy it. If you dont care, then more power to ya. Comment wars about some game that isnt even out yet. Sheesh. And Im only here to see when the game comes out, Im not trying to get in on this little dispute.
brad @ Jul 27th 2007 3:50PM
Yes this is cheap compared to other prices.. but still these prices are outrageous. $60 for a game, and $40 for a damn guitar to PLAY The game.. come on. Half of the people playing the game are under the age 15, I don't know if you'd get as much sales making it $100. Not alot of kids have that kind of money.
Kevin @ Jul 29th 2007 12:31PM
I agree with brad ALL THE WAY I mean like im 12 years old and I dont get that much money so im gonna have alot of trouble savin up for this game and I KNOW im not a "true fan of guitar hero" but Ill tell you my story : there was this kid in my class who was havin a B-day party and i said wat you gonna do for your B-day he said hes goin to get guitar hero II so i asked him wats that??? he said its the best game ever than he told he was a true fan of guitar hero cause he had GH1 GH80s and that he was gonna get GH2 so i said watever because sadly enough I wasnt invited so a month later I go to my friends house and he was downstairs playin somthin and I looked I could have sworn I saw M.A.G.I.C. i was so amazed of GH2 but once again sadly enough i dont have ps2 or x-box360 but i got a wii so I heard a ruomor that GH3 was comin out so I went crazy searchin the web and found out they were makin it for the wii ps2 ps3 & x-box 360. so I search on google :guitar hero 3 price and clicked the first result and here I am!
MetalRunner @ Aug 16th 2007 2:51PM
If your gonna bitch About the price why don't you guys wait until it slows down a little and then buy it?
Colin @ Aug 28th 2007 3:36PM
It's called price skimming, Price skimming is a pricing strategy in which a marketer sets a relatively high price for a product or service at first, then lowers the price over time. More or less every product goes through this. There are people who are quite willing to pay the initial price so why would Activision release it at a lower price and miss out on the extra revenue. Just wait till the price is lowered if you're that bothered.
Luke @ Aug 27th 2007 8:59AM
tthey should put wifi on guitar hero 3 for the wii so u can play people around the world.
adam @ Sep 5th 2007 5:28PM
hey if we already have a guitar is there a way to but just the game instead of buying another guitar?
harre96 @ Sep 11th 2007 6:31PM
The reason for the 10 dollar price drop is since the wii version uses the controller in the guitar, they dont have to build in the motion sensor junk that makes the star power go because the remote already has all that stuff, an added feature since remote is used sound will come from the speakers and it will rumble, but you can change that in the wii remote settings
Joe @ Sep 13th 2007 2:41PM
Sweet, I love owning a Wii and getting cheaper games.
I'm not a big fan of 80s Rock, which is why I like the fact that Guitar Hero 3 doesn't have as much as it as past GH games. The Guitar Hero 3 Soundtrack is easily the best of the series so far. I listened to the whole thing on this site, http://www.guitarherosoundtracks.com. I recognize at least 3/4 of the songs after listening to them. I went ahead and pre-ordered the game from RedOctane's website to get the free stuff. Can't wait till October 29th!
Miss_D @ Sep 16th 2007 1:57PM
ok, i agree with collin, only ten dollars more for a WIRELESS controller isnt that bad
i have a ps3, i paid $600 for it
it does the same shyt as xbox and whatever
so seriously, if you have a super expensive console dont complain about how much the games cost
its called technology.
and if you have all of this time to complain
im sure you have the time to get off your ass
and get a job.
even if your too young
be a babysitter lol
anyways, if you have the time to complain, yu culd b buying it
matt837 @ Sep 18th 2007 8:40PM
On wikipedia it says that wii is going to have online play, I don't know how credible of a source that is, but it seems like it wouldn't be impossible. Also I think it would be really cool if you could buy additional games from the Wii Shop channel, which seems plausible too. It seems like nintendo could make money from it and it would be cool. I saw on you tube of a video of someone who somehow made a playable song for through the fire and the flames by dragonforce, and it looked really fun, which is why I'm glad that song is on this game. I also agree that this is game has the best soundtrack so far. I love that they have Maiden! Up the Irons!
