Wii Warm Up: Composure
Videogame music has come a far cry from the beeps of yesteryear, with amazing works coming from both studios and independent remixers alike. A musical score is now a critical component of game design, and the big names in gaming are some of the most forward-thinking pioneers in the musical world today. Most classic Nintendo themes have been crafted by the well-known Koji Kondo, but Nintendo's consoles have been host to dozens upon dozens of brilliant composers. So, who's your favorite? There's a ridiculous list composing for Super Smash Bros. Brawl, found here (which interestingly omits the famed Nobuo Uematsu, who already composed the game's title theme). Which names stand your hair on end?

s'gotta be Goldeneye on the N64 - scooting through the snow, taking potshots at pesky Russians, all to the sublime soundtrack... aaah, good times.

Goldeneye. I was amazed just how many times (Grant Kirkhorpe) managed to remix the Bond theme until all the life had been sucked out of it. Then in Perfect Dark he remixed every single track into an 'X' version that is composed entirely of orchestra hit sounds. He truly is a musical genius.

Not sure of the composers name (Hirokazu 'Hip' Tanaka perhaps?), but I really love the music from the Metroid family of games...especially the 2 'Prime' games.
In Metroid Prime 1 & 2 the opening cinematic/demo loop music is really cool. All of the little 'blips' and 'scratchy/noise like sounds' that are layered under the music are amazing.
I also have a soft spot for the 'Super Metroid' theme...ROCK ON!

How about a top 3?
I'm so partial to Yasunori Mitsuda because of my undying love for Crono Trigger. You have to give it up for Koji Kondo. He is the grand-daddy. And, tied in third would be Hirokazu Tanaka and Yuzo Koshiro. It may be antiquated, but I absolutely love the score from ActRaiser.

I'm a huge fan of Yu Miyake of Katamari Damacy fame. That has to be my favorite soundtrack in any game. Obviously, Zelda themes rank up there as well. And pretty much the soundtrack of any Castlevania game (with very few exceptions) are brilliant.
