Even though i agree with the masses (I love my Empoleon) If you look at the game, Chimchar is actually the wiser choice. Evolve him up to Monferno and his mach punch will annihilate the first gym leader, and the game seems to want you to choose him, throwing a lot of combination steel types at you whose only weakness is Fire (especially Bronzor...), and i hate Ponyta/Rapidash, always have

I completely agree with #14, Donald.

They've mixed the three starters so much that no matter who you pick, you still have the potential to beat the one that is (supposedly) strong against you.

I picked Piplup because I'm a water type fan... but I know that if these three were at their tip top shape, Chimchar would probably win due to it's much greater speed than the other two.

If you don't choose him as a starter, your only option for a fire pokemon is ponyta.
That is before you have the national dex.

Piplup is by far the superior. But out of Turtwig and Chimchar, I'd have to say Turtwig because Monferno is just but ugly. They're all pretty cute and all as starters, but Piplup is the only one that still looks awesome when evolved.

As for available fire pokemon, I'm happy to settle with ponyta until I can get a Vulpix later on.
