Resident Evil 4 comparison puts "two Gamecubes taped together" to rest

The sad part is, we actually don't know if the Wii can do better graphics than the original Resident Evil 4, because nobody has tried. Well, at least this version of RE4 has waggling. And it's not like the graphics were bad on the Cube or anything.

Four things to note here.
1.) The Wii version will natively support 16×9 480p (GameCube did not), so it will look better on HD TV's. Also, a lot more people have a component cable for the Wii then did on the Cube.
2.) Most likely they captured footage of the GameCube version on a Wii, which would enhance the graphics slightly.
3.) The NTSC-US and PAL versions will have all of the same gore as the GameCube version. The Wii game in the video is for NTSC-Japan.
4.) This is a pretty small video (even the downloaded QuickTime). Viewing the difference in person on a TV will probably yield better results.(especially if you play the GC version on a GC and the Wii version on a Wii).
All and all I don't think the developers spent much time on new graphics, they could have really showed us the horsepower of the Wii if they did. At the very LEAST the graphics could be 1.5 times better than the GC version based on the cpu specs of the Wii.

aww man, very dissapointing, i know the wii can do better then this, the final fantasy for this system looks amazing, i know the graohics can do better then this
Ryan Thorpe @ Jun 6th 2007 1:16PM
That is freaking pathetic.

Not really a big deal to me. Had they worked on the graphics more, the game would hvae been 50 instead of 30 dollars. Frankly, if they had charged full retail, then I might get a little stuff. Also, let's remember that even in its gamecube graphic state, RE4 will be one of the best looking games we've had so far.
Spex @ Jun 6th 2007 1:31PM
Looking carefully though, I can tell that they improved the shaders a little bit. Shadows look darker and lights look brighter. Aside from that the compressed video would make it difficult to see sharper textures and 480p differences. Still though, I'm sure the difference isn't too significant, but I'll still probably pick it up as I've never owned a Resident Evil game, let alone this very good one. $30 has me sold.

I didn't expect anything less from the Wii. It has been nothing but one huge disappointment in terms of overall game quality.
Wiitard @ Jun 6th 2007 1:53PM
Having only played (and own) the PS2 version, I will see an improvement. It's going to be so funny when I trade in RE4(PS2) for RE4(Wii)
Patrick @ Jun 6th 2007 1:56PM
What I want to see (which I know can be done, just I don't have the program for it) is that they are made into one video. It's not split-screen, it's one video, one half is made up of Wii and other GCN. That would be a better comparison.

I honestly didn't expect capcom to upgrade the visuals from the cube version. For the bargain price of thirty dollars i say the cube graphics are fine. I'm also very happy to hear about the time capcom spent on the extras and new controls and personally can't wait for RE4 wii edition even with cube graphics.

Sorry about the double post computer glitch
Herby @ Jun 6th 2007 2:33PM
Ignorant story. No one expected a graphical update. RE4 Wii is a budget release with extra features. It's basically a Greatest Hits type rerelease. Capcom NEVER suggested otherwise. In fact, repeatedly in the reporting for this game it's been stated that no graphical updates were planned.
vidGuy @ Jun 6th 2007 3:11PM
Wait, who expected them to bump the visuals? I'm not at all surprised by this because I thought all Capcom was doing is adding new controls and extra content.
SSBB looks better than Melee, MP3 > MP2, and SMG > SMS... so I'm not concerned about the visuals ability of the Wii.
JonnyBoy2U @ Jun 6th 2007 4:42PM
Thats truly pathetic and Capcom should be ASHAMED of themselves for putting out such a pathetic piece of shit game on the Wii. If you're going to make a remake then freaking do it the RIGHT WAY.
I mean the graphics on this thing look EXACTLY the same. Nintendo should also be ashamed for allowing this crap to come out. Even if it has a lesser price.
Soiden @ Jun 6th 2007 4:47PM
Why is always about graphics? We all know that the important part of this port is the control style.
This would be pathetic if it was a port for Xbox360 or PS3.
navstar @ Jun 6th 2007 4:50PM
RE4 should be the *bare minimum* of how any Wii game should look.
It seems almost all developers are stuck in PS2-target Renderware engines. Really pathetic.
DrunkenKender @ Jun 6th 2007 5:38PM
Yes, but.. didn't we already know this was a port of a Gamecube game with tacked on Wii controls?
Jason @ Jun 6th 2007 9:50PM
it's just a port two years too late. capcom was too lazy to make a new game, and that being said they are just as lazy regarding a new polished look. don't be surprised.
tiamat1990 @ Jun 7th 2007 12:15AM
Well it's selling for a budget price...stop bitching.
JC Fletcher @ Jun 7th 2007 12:22AM
On the contrary. You should START bitching and stop accepting $30 as a "budget" price, especially for a game you can already play on the Wii.
bman @ Jun 7th 2007 12:28AM
I'm not concerned that there are no changes graphically.
I AM concerned that even without any changes, its still going to be the best looking Wii game to date
Lou D @ Jun 7th 2007 7:12AM
Isn't this game going to run in 852x480 vs 640x360 on the Cube? I have for the 'Cube and I'll be buying it for the Wii anyway.
ssuk @ Jun 7th 2007 9:12AM
You guys make me laugh. "ITS A BUDGET TITLE, WHERE'S THE GFX UPDATE!?!?1/1/1/"
Frank @ Jun 7th 2007 2:29PM
I've stopped buying Wii games a while ago. I'll wait until next yearm, when hopefully we'l have new Wii games, and not GameCube ports.
OpNickC @ Jun 7th 2007 5:21PM
"I AM concerned that even without any changes, its still going to be the best looking Wii game to date"
Agreed. When I saw the Wii specs, I said "About twice as powerful, so basically GCN graphics with room for better lighting, textures, and effects, but nothing revolutionary. Good enough for me!" But we aren't seeing games with better textures and lighting, we're seeing games that look worse than prominent GCN games!
The Wii's graphical capabilities are good enough for most people, including me. But developers need to actually use those capabilities!
That said, I don't mind the lack of graphical improvements in RE4 for two reasons:
1. Even though $30 is probably what a NEW game SHOULD cost, it is a 'budget' title
2. It'll still have some of the best visuals on the system (how pathetic is that?).
JC Fletcher @ Jun 7th 2007 5:25PM
The best thing about RE4 Wii is that it'll drive the price of RE4 Cube down even more, maybe into the magical "$5 for a used copy" category.
