This one's for the ladies

As far as "powerful storylines" and "strong well-written characters" go, there haven't been many releases on the DS that we could direct you to. Hotel Dusk works well as an interactive mystery novel, and you could always download the Dubliners eBook -- shout-outs to Moonshell and the Moon Books Project -- but where do you go from there?

Independent studio nDreams is convinced that is has a tale in need of telling and is looking to break into the casual gaming business with Venus Redemption, an episodic adventure targeted at 30-plus-year-old female gamers. The planned immersive title will be plotted out by film and new media writer Kate Pullinger and graphic novelist Gordon Rennie. Catering to its casual audience, nDreams promises that the game will be "extremely easy to play, requiring only the ability to move and left-click a mouse."

Expect to hear more about Venus Redemption this July 5th when nDreams demonstrates the PC/Wii/DS game to potential publishers and distributors.

You know....coming from a family of long-time, hard-core gamers....all I can say is that these idiots are insulting my entire family. "All you need to do is be able to point and click a mouse."

Wow, so let me get this straight....women over 30 don't want good game play, or decent graphics? (Read: Why does the game look like a cheap SecondLife knockoff?)

My mother, grandmother, and two aunts (read: everyone of them is over 30) have played everything from the Nintendo to World of WarCraft and back, and they like their games to be challenging, with good game play, and good graphics.

I swear to God, these companies have no freaking idea what their female cusomter base wants, and the more they try, the more they just insult us. Eck.

The game fails purely because it uses the Comic Sans font. Ugh.

I'm a 30+ female gamer and I'm happily playing Pokemon Diamond, and waiting for Phoenix Wright 3.
30 is just a number.

I'll admit, the premise is intreiguing...but the delivery is still insulting. Just because I'm sporting female-bits does not make me a gaming-simpleton. How about less half-assery; the idea is sound, try making it into a properly developed game?

You know, after reading the comments from other female gamers...

I'm seriously starting to think someone needs to create a group for female gamers that goes to the big gaming companies and says "THIS is what we want. Stop giving us Ponyz, Bratz, & every other crappy game you think is going to impress the female populice!"

Seriously...the gaming companies have got to get it through their heads that we like the games that boys like, or at least games with similar game play but with more story. Quit treating us like brainless, pink tutu-wearing, fluffballs.

Wouldn't it be nice if the companies listened to us, though? They never seem to, and think that we can only manage to shove our mouse around and play Bejeweled.

Eventually, maybe they'll pay attention to the statistics that reveal that many female gamers over 18 are playing games that are far, far more complicated than those they seem to think we "want."
