Original DLC to have own service on Wii?
When it comes to original titles, don't look to the Virtual Console -- System 3's CEO Mark Cale recently let slip that Nintendo will be utilizing a different service for new downloadable games. When discussing the forthcoming release of Impossible Mission with PALGN, Cale said, "I wouldn't say Virtual Console, because they're not actually calling it the Virtual Console ...." In a way, this makes sense, but it opens the doors of speculation as to just what this other download service will be like. We would have assumed it would simply be another feature of the Shopping channel, but Cale indicated the service might resemble Xbox Live Arcade. If Cale is to be believed, we don't have long to wait when it comes to finding out just how things will be handled -- he expects Nintendo will start making announcements within the next two months.

No-one said it wouldn't be available through the Shop Channel. The Virtual Console section is only a very small part of the Shop Channel.

Technically since they're remaking the game anyway, they could more easily get away with creating a demo. I'm all for new games.

actually, except for the Web Browser and the Votes Channel, VC is all Shop Channel is right now
but i get what you mean, i too hope for a future where Shop Channel = Live Marketplace
(given that they work around vastly different amounts of Memory)

It wouldn't make sense to create a brand new channel just for original games. It would potentially confuse and/or alienate the non-gamers Nintendo is aiming for.
New, original downloadable games would just be part of the existing Wii Shop Channel. As previously stated, the Virtual Console is only 1/2 of the Wii Shop Channel.

I hate it how reporters always say the new content will be available for download on its own channel. It will obviously be off the ship channel just a new section to differentiate from old and new stuff

This would be nice... if it worked. Any idea how to fix a Wii that just won't connect to the Shopping channel server no matter how much time I give it (if it makes a difference, it's a Japanese Wii).

If you're connecting by wireless, you may want to check your wireless router is set up correctly. Most the time non-connections for most wireless devices is that people don't set their MTU high enough, set it to the max the router allows and see if that helps. If not, blow the horn to Nintendo forums or something, say you lost your manual. Or better yet, if you read Japanese... =P
