Wii Warm Up: Downloaded

What have you shelled out for on the Virtual Console? For us, it's always something of a nail-biter: do we pay? Do we skip? Decisions are hard -- especially when it comes to games we almost want, but aren't sure about. We know a lot of you find VC pricing to be a little high, so we assume it must be similarly difficult for some of our readers when trying to decided whether or not they should buy. What's made you decide to spend some of those precious Wii points?

I'm happy to download the NES titles that I like. I think 500 points is great pricing, and I don't see why one would think otherwise. I'd love to download some SNES and Megadrive titles as well, but then I have to buy a classic controller.. I'll Probably buy a classic controller and purchase my favourite Megadrive games during 2007 though. Looking forward to try out some turbo grafx games too. Never even seen the console.
But it's mainly all about the NES titles. They're so instantaneous. That I like.

I've downloaded a bunch of games, but I've been giving the Shop Channel a miss since I downloaded Ocarina. I got burned by a couple that I really wish I hadn't downloaded. Columns for one. For some reason I remember loving that game on Game Gear, but I can't play it for more than 10 minutes now. There are a few that I'd like to get, but it gets expensive.
Also, I'm wondering when storage space will become an issue. Since I can't save the game to my SD card, I'll eventually have to delete them to make space for others and redownload them if I want to play them later. Has anyone run out of space yet? I'm curious how you handled that. Having a third of the space left in only 5 months is a little worrisome.

And well.. I forgot the list of my games:
Punch Out, Zelda, Super Mario, Gradius, Kirby :)

last night while drunk I downloaded Castlevania, Proceeded to the grim reaper in one life, died, went to sleep. Best five bucks ever spent.

I've downloaded 6 games total: Bonks Adventure,Bonks Revenge, Adventure Island,Splatterhouse,Punch-Out and Streets Of Rage. I'm happy with all of the purchases. I recently put more points on my system. Now i'm just waiting for more games I want to be added. All the games except Splatterhouse I played as a child so I knew i'd like them. Even though I love the game,Streets Of Rage was the hardest to download due to the price. I think $5-$6 is a great price point but after that its harder to spend the money unless it's an amazing game.

Off the top of my head, I've bought:
Zelda
aLttP
Ocarina of time
Super Mario Bros
Super Mario World
Super Mario 64
Kirby
Contra 3
Gradius
Star Fox 64
Galaga
Kid Icarus
Donkey Kong Country
There's 5 or 6 more, I think, but I can't think of them right now.

I've been a follower/disciple of gaming for years, but early on I wasn't able to buy all the systems (I never owned a Genesis or a TG16). But I remember some of the games I was interested in so many years ago that I saw in magazines, so many of my purchases have been games I just didn't get to play way back when. I recently passed 20 VC games downloaded, with a few from each system (TG16 and SNES with a slight majority).
There isn't too high a price to pay for gems like Mario 64, Wonder Boy in Monster World, Dragon's Curse, Gunstar Heroes, Bomberman '93 and Mystical Ninja.

@1 - you can use the main wiimote for genesis/megadrive, Athough the the A button being mapped to the A means it can be a little awkard for games where it is in heavy use, having to move off the Dpad for the primary button is difficult in tight battles. That being said, Sonic plays perfectly with the 'mote (the debug code is a bitch with the layout though)
The VC was pretty much the major system selling point for me being a nostalgia whore.
my list:
SMB
LoZ
LoZ LTTP
LoZ OOT
Excite bike
Bonks adventure
sonic
tj&e
super ghosts and goblins (though i like the genesis gouls and ghosts a bit more)
starfox64
punchout
smw
MK64
basically my playing regemin consists of a MarioKart GP, s crushing defeat in Punchout, a level or two in sonic, a wii fitness test and then onto some twighlight princess or SPM (i have only had the wii for a week and a half)

I've spend 30€ for 3.000 Points.. and well.. I have only spent 800 for Super Mario World (SNES) -
I always liked it on the SNES .. it plays great on the Wii, too, but I am not sure what I am going to buy next..
Zelda for N64 was great - I never owned a N64, so I have no clue how well Mario 64 plays .. gosh.. why are there no Demos?
I also have the Xbox 360 - I like the Xbox Arcade Demos.. I hope the Wii Network gets something similiar ..
Btw.. what happens if your Wii Console breaks? They wont give you the games back, will they? Theres nothing which identifies you as the user - only the ID of the console :-/
I hope mine never stops working :)

Actually i meant to ask this, on the VC in europe, is the sega system listed as Genesis or MegaDrive?
Ken @ May 4th 2007 12:33PM
@Consti
I think they give you the Wii Points value of what you purchased. Or they just rename your new Wii to the old one.
lovelain @ May 4th 2007 12:53PM
only the classics for me (well, what's classic in my world): super marioworld, super mario bros., zelda (nes), zelda: link to the past, mario bros. for nes (SUCKS!), super castlevainia, and punchout.
Ios @ May 12th 2007 4:09PM
Nothing. I have contemplated buying Super Mario for the NES, but I can not justifying paying the prices they charge for something I may or may not get tired of playing in a week (or less) and have already purchased previously.
I'm ready for some new downloadable content. Something fresh to show off the features of the Wii. Either that or a downloadable version of the new Sam and Max adventure.
Ryan P. @ May 4th 2007 4:16PM
I've read thast there's some sort of "suspend" feature that lets you sort of puase the game and then go out of the system and come back to it. I've never seen it but i think that would make a big difference in what games to get.
Knowing i can play through a NES game like Super mario bros
wich didn't have a save feature before is cool. So i'll get that. But games that allready have a save feature? They're no different then the original copies i allready own.
I'm waiting t'ill SUPER METROID comes out before getting my first points card.

Ipergorilla @ May 4th 2007 5:15PM
@Yaktastic: In the European VC the thing you calla Sega Genesis is listed as Sega MegaDrive.
@Ryan: you just have to press the HOme button hone the Wiimot and go back to the Wii Menu. When you restart the game, you'll be in the same position you were when you paused.
Uhm.. so Far I Downloaded: Altered Beast, ToeJam&Earl (I regret downloading those two), Street fighter II (I regret this too), Super Mario World, Bonk's Revenge, Kirby's Adventure. I don't regret downloading these last three games.
Mr Khan @ May 4th 2007 5:39PM
Bomberman 93 (a revival of my old Bomberman fandom, in perfect form)
Toe Jam & Earl (one of the few worthwhile Genesis titles I DON'T have on compiliation disc)
Ice Climber (after their inclusion in SSBM, i had to)
They have all been worth it
Andrew @ May 4th 2007 6:03PM
I've got
Starfox 64, Mariokart 64, excitebike, Toejam and Earl, bomberman 93.
I think that's it. I am wanting two games alot
*"Spiderman"
*Super mario rpg (seven stars)
Spiderman for n64, it was on dreamcast and plastation as well, that game was really fun. I also remember mario rpg, and it's simularities to today's paper mario..well I like the original the best!
DrunkenKender @ May 4th 2007 8:07PM
I've bought SMB, Zelda I, Ocarina, Mario64, Mario Kart 64, Kirby, Galaga, and Mystical Ninja. No regrets!
