Next Kingdom Hearts game coming to portables

Square Enix's Tetsuya Nomura recently told Famitsu that the next installment in the Kingdom Hearts franchise won't be gracing consoles and won't even be Kingdom Hearts III. Instead, portable gaming enthusiasts look to be the ones who are lucking out, as he said the next title in the franchise will be another spin-off set to grace handheld platforms. "[It] would be hard to choose if to make the game for the PSP, NDS or the cell phone," he said, leaving us a bit puzzled in the statement's wake.Why would it be a hard decision? For one, a spin-off title from the franchise already released on the GBA, so there is some familiarity with Nintendo's hardware on his side. Plus, the Nintendo DS is the hottest handheld on the market, so wouldn't it be in his company's best interest to bring it here? Sure, we can understand the difficulty of deciding between the DS and cell phones, but we really don't think the PSP is in the running much, unless it looks to be a graphically-heavy title.

I'm still waiting on a US release of KH2:FM+.
And if that means that I have to go out and buy another console (Xbox 360 *shudder*), I just might have to.
(PS. To all the would-be flamers: I have nothing against the 360, it's just my current funds will not allow me to purchase one. I would like to have one, I just have my money invested in a Wii, a DS, a GameCube, and a PS2. Not to mention a new Cell Phone (LG AX8600 *sweeeeetness!*), and countless other things that make living day to day possible.)

Why wouldn't the PSP be in the running? Espcally considering they could use most of the Assets from the PS2 version of the game.. create a game that could be everything like the a PS2 game. It's not like they aren't supporting the PSP already with the FF remakes, and FF tactics, and FFVII. And PSP's numbers are CERTAINLY no slouch either
I understand the whole "fanboy" aspect of this site.. but c'mon.. seriously.. Beyond Wii and PS2, both Handhelds are taking over the industry.

If this comes to PSP it would be a dream come true. The GBA spin off was crap so let's hope they learned their lesson and make a high quality game for the PSP.

Hey, Chain of Memories was awesome, especially for a GBA game. I hope they release the new KH game for DS though, because I don't have a PSP, and most KH fans I know don't own a PSP either...

Yeah DS rocks ! The gba version rocks too (except Rikus last Endboss Ansem which is ungodly hard)

most KH fans I know don't own a DS either. But KH for the SP was good for a portable. I think it would be best to make a PSP version because it would be closest to the awsome ps2 KH series. Also itwould have WAY better graphics than the DS can output if it were on the PSP. But if they want to do something...shudder...NEW with the gameplay mechanics then NDS would be the most obvious choice, but it would have to be really really good new touchscreen mechanics to be better than the PS2 versions. ON the otherhand why mess with a proven formula, you could just keep th mechanics and make an awsome story line for the PSP while improving the game without taking much risk. I would support the DS version only if can pull off amazing gameplay that fully utilizes the touchscreen, something that most 3rd party developers have not been able to pull off. Im hoping it would be a PSP version

the next game should be on ds mainy cos of the touch screen, which can be used for magic and stuff saving time on healing and puzzles could be solved and notes could be made and stuff.

I'm looking forward to seeing Kingdom Hearts on the Nintendo DS, but I'm afraid KH's cousin namely It's A Wonderful World won't get a U.S. release.
It is my deepest desire to see Kingdom Hearts for DS makes use of the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection whereby it will contain users being able to connect and interact over the wi-fi connection.
It seems as of Nintendo has been afraid to give american gamers the ability to connect online and play with friends over the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.
