Square Enix hasn't sipped the Virtual Console Kool-Aid
It seems that Square Enix isn't quite convinced about the whole Virtual Console thing. In an interview with Nintendo Dream magazine, Square's Shinji Hashimoto was dubious about the prospects for Final Fantasy games on the Virtual Console, stating that the Japanese audience (which is, of course, the audience that matters) needs physical media for their games. And like the responsible, friendly, consumer-oriented company that Square Enix is, they are happy to provide physical copies of Final Fantasy games. Over, and over, and over, and over again. Of course they don't want to sell a $5 copy of NES FF1 when they've got the PSP remake coming out.We aren't that upset, since they've already released the best game in their library (in Japan and Europe, at least). Go ahead and argue with us. You know Actraiser is way better than Final Fantasy.

Don't get me wrong, I *love* Actraiser, but it just doesn't have that much time-value in it. I played through the whole thing start to finish in an evening (on an emulator) a while back. FF2 might have 30-40 hours in it; FF3 50+; Chrono Trigger probably has somewhere around 80 if you really want to invest in the New Game+. I'm not saying that always makes them "better", but...
Anyway, yeah, it's a shame that Squeenix isn't pushing for more VC stuff. I just hope the market responds -- maybe if the PSP versions don't sell too well for $30, they'll reconsider selling a VC SNES one for $8-10. I don't really have a horse in this race, though, since I've played most of the Square RPGs to death several times over. If they release an English localized FF5 they'll get my money, but otherwise I can't think of anything I'd pay for yet again...

They could at least put out games that won't get a remake like Actraiser and others.

I have it on the SNES, but I have to dig the system out. I'd rather pay $6 not to go back into my garage ever again. LOL.

why would anyone choose a physical copy of something over a virtual one just to have it in your hand? I have waaaay too much crap as it is, all my boxes for games and DVD's stay out for the first week for the manual or insert(which I hardly ever look at) and then get shipped down to the basement to take-up space while I slide the games into folders or (in the case of my DS) try to stuff all the tiny cartridges in the back of my protector. I'd think in japan especially they'd like the ease of use of downloading directly to the console and the space that it saves.
