Take a peek at Final Fantasy Tactics A2

Viva la Jeux France, for they bring us scads of new images from Final Fantasy Tactics A2! While the game -- or rather, its successor -- may be somewhat divisive among gamers who either loved or hated it, we hope you can all agree on at least one thing: these images look pretty sweet. We'll wait to pass judgment on the game itself, but there's no question about the screens -- they are filled with awesome. The color palette and the overall design is really easy on the eyes. We could easily stare at this one for hours, which is good, since, y'know, we probably will.

It looks gorgeous. One map looks like US without Maine. And who's that summon? I love FFTA the predecessor of FFTA2.

What in the heck is that THING he's holding??? What did we do to deserve such terrible design? Can you tell me what is wrong with a normal sword? Can't we just do that instead? I sniff the foul traces of a 'keyblade' in that monstrosity. Welcome to Goofy and Friends Tactics gentlemen.

@#2: HAHA, looks like a giant pizza cutter to me. Wish they had used the FFIII engine for this one, but I guess 2D is ok for a strategy game. Worked great for Advance Wars, anyway. Detail seems to be a bit higher than on the original though, but not much better. Oh well, I'm sure the game itself will be great, and if there was online (unlikely, I'm sure, but imagine being able to battle other people's clans/guilds/parties/whatever it was, forgot what they called it, or take missions on a global mission board thing. OMG FFTA MMO would be so fun... dreams...) it would be great but even without it's going to be a solid game and a definite purchase, unless SE keeps going with their FFIII pricing of $40, in which case I might wait a while or get it used or something, or just grit my teeth and bear it.

I would normally say a map. Does that make sense to put a map for a grid based strategy game? Would having selected targets' information be better shown on both screens? Like having the accuracy and battle data on bottom and elemental and laws and stats on top?

I'm guessing the second screen will be primarily used to show stats and info, etc... I'm not expecting much of a step up from the GBA level of graphics/interface, but there isn't much you could do which would really have a big impact on gameplay imo.
And yes, that ....thing looks fucking terrible. >:\

The sword's just about the same as the one Marche holds in just about all of his official art.
Personally, the FFXII: RW engine works better than the FFIII engine for a Tactics game.

I wish Squaresoft would stop releasing games that target little kids.
I can't play any of these games, they're just too immature.
I still love Final Fantasy Tactics. I play it to this day, but I can't get anything new on my DS in the FFT genre because it's all just kiddie games.
PSP isn't really an option because I don't like Sony and all they're doing is re-releasing FFT from PSX! Talk about a lot of dead-end options!
