Wiis available 4/23 at Gamestop and EB online, but ...
Remember what we were saying about Gamestop, and their intentions toward your face? EB and Gamestop are now advertising that they will be shipping Wii systems out on April 23, and all they ask for in exchange is all your money.Five months after the release of the system, Gamestop is still apparently getting away with huge bundles. Here's what you're stuck with if you want to buy a system:
- Nintendo Wii system (system, remote controller, nunchuck, stand, sensor and Wii Sports)
- Wii 1 Gigabyte Memory Card
- 1 additional Wii Remote Controller
- 1 additional Wii Nunchuck Controller
- Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
- Sonic and the Secret Rings
- Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz
- Cooking Mama: Cook Off

besides Super the memory card, Monkey Ball Banana Blitz and Cooking Mama: Cook Off, I'd say it was a pretty good package (with the price adjust for it). Eitherway, I don't think the price for SD "wii memory" cards are going to cheap anytime soon.

I don't know, Amazon's got a 1gb SD card for $6 right now.

And how exactly do they get away with this BS? I'm just getting back into the world of gaming as we scored a Wii a couple weekends ago, but how are these companies allowed to force people into this? Even if we hadn't didn't already own a Wii - after three months of looking for one, mind you - I wouldn't jump on this deal.

It's called economics. That's how they get away with it.

1 gig for $6?!?!!? Damn. I got a 2 gig SD for $30 at Best Buy.

bundles are the most annoying things EVAR. I'm so jaded towards the likes of GameStop and other mall oriented game stores these days

Gamestop sucks
Just stake out a circuit city or Target, find out when they are getting systems and show up early and get one for 249.99 like god intended.
That's what I did months ago.

Weird I got my Wii at Gamestop in February and there weren't any forced bundles.

The pricing is crazy:
$250 - System
$200 - 4 games
$40 - Remote
$20 - Nunchuk
For a total of :$510 for everything but the SD card. So a $40 SD card for 1 gb when you can get them AVERAGE $20. Charging $20 extra for the SD card and list price for everything else doesn't seem like a very good deal to me IMO.

Companies become absolutely no better than the eBay thugs when they descend into anti-consumer behavior like this.
It's ethically wrong, if not legally... although I wonder what a call to ones state attorney general might reveal?
I mean, consider it: a major retailer taking advantage of a product with high consumer demand, due to limited quantities, by forcing their customers to purchase almost $300 in ADDITIONAL non-essential purchases. I'm not a lawyer, but to me this just *reeks* of a potentially illegal business practice that needs to be smacked down hard.
It's a fucking scam, and as consumers, we shouldn't just roll over and accept this attempt at mugging us as business as usual.

That's not so bad.
Read this: Here the Wii alone costs $750.
And it comes with NO extra stuff.
Fortyseven @ Apr 11th 2007 1:10AM
Soiden: Just adjust the values: imagine being forced to buy a bundle at $1,650 in your currency. :P
Is the ~$500 markup for other consoles (SNES, PS3, Gamecube, Dreamcast, etc.) common where you are?
cmslick3 @ Apr 13th 2007 9:24PM
Well I've seen a few people happy about this and a few poo pooh'ers... Granted the price may be slightly inflated, BUT for those of us unable to find a Wii locally this bundle offer is awesome!
I don't understand the comment about bundling being illegal. It's a hot item and honestly I am glad they offered this bundle.
We ordered the bundle last Thursday evening and the whole package showed up Monday Evening!!! I am extremely happy to finally get my hands on a Wii, and I can honestly say that the Wii is the most fun I've had playing video games in a while.
Bluebreaker @ Apr 11th 2007 1:43AM
Can some one add up the numbers to see how much it's supposed to cost? I think the games are probably the most expensive but that memory card seems marked up.

do what i did - if you live in the NYC area - just walk your ass down to the Nintendo world store and pick one up... they have them every day to sell.
Soiden @ Apr 14th 2007 1:00AM
@ fortyseven
Not very much. The GameCube costed $500, but everything else from Nintendo was under $400.
I haven't asked about PS3, but it really scares me to ask it.
