Rez with the Wiimote could be the best thing ever

Resident GlovePIE enthusiast Tiger is at it again, this time implementing Wiimote controls with the Dreamcast title Rez. Not content to stop after showing us how the Wiimote could be used with Panzer Dragoon and House of the Dead 3, Tiger has implemented the script into Rez, which he is emulating on his PC. Check out the video of it in action past the post break.

I didn't know the Dreamcast was emulated so good on PC.
Thanks :-)

God that game impressed me when it was released. It's the main reason i kept the Dreamcast! A bit like playing Starblade in a Disco. I'd pay to have it working again through the Wii...

I call shenanigans. He's definitely NOT using the remote to control the cursor. He's merely holding the nunchuk off screen to control it. The response time is way too slow and barely follows his movements. Anyone who has played on a Wii will know how sensitive the cursor is to where you point the remote. They would also know that it's nearly impossible for someone to hold the remote steady enough to keep the cursor perfectly still.

This just further proves my _single_ complaint about zelda ... the wiimote makes 3-d controller based games down right easy. We all know zelda was designed with the gamecube in mind and I'm sure the game was pretty hard on the cube, but on the wii it was just a little too easy for me.
The next zelda is going to blow my mind ... i just know it

This solution is meh (agreed w/ #3), but seriously, it's about time someone else realized Rez would be amazing on Wii.
...It's also about time Rez got a sequel, for that matter.

to dahcheet:
It's perfectly possible to make the Remote not respond to subtle movements. This script has a 5 degree deadzone for vertical movement, and 10 degrees for horizontal. And I am using both the Nunchuk joystick and the Remote motion sensing to control the game intermittently. If you watch closely, you can see me detach the Nunchuk periodically to demonstrate how it can be motion controlled as well. It's not super-responsive because I'm merely emulating keyboard inputs. Tilting to the right is akin to hitting that directional key repeatedly. Controlling Rez with an actual keyboard gets similar lag, but it doesn't harm gameplay at all. I find the motion control to be quite enjoyable. Definitely moreso than even the Dreamcast controller. Of course, I'd hope for a proper Wii port of Rez to use the Sensor Bar for actual pointing instead. Same with Panzer Dragoon, but also allowing simultaneous free-movement of your dragon's body using the analog stick.

I have no problem holding the remote steady on my Wii.. It's not nearly as shaky as some of the videos I have seen of others using it.. Although it's harder the further away I get and the less rested my arms are..
I haven't watched the video yet but I assume it just acts as the mouse right? well you can set the sensitivity for that no problem. You could on the Wii too if games would just freaking include the option.

I've personally used GlovePIE and the IR functionality is an easy thing to implement, there isn't much of a reason why this guy couldn't use the IR for aiming. Only snag is needing a sensor bar, but there's more than one battery powered sensor bar that works just fine.

Matt N:
Using IR to replace a mouse is common, but to emulate keyboard input is something I've yet to see. It's something I'll be looking into, though. There are many games that could benefit from it if implemented well.
