DS Daily: Welcome, new DS owners!

We're sure that a lot of you are just getting back from stores, where you picked up your $19.99 Konami's Best Edition DS Lites. We're glad Konami solved that DS shortage, and at such a budget price! Welcome, new DS Fanboys, to the fold.
We thought it was a little presumptuous of Konami to label the whole system as "Konami's Best", but we must admit, a lot of Konami's best work has been on the system-- two Castlevanias, Lunar Knights, etc. We can accept that.
So what do you think about your new systems? And are any of you existing DS owners getting one at the budget price?

I got two. The build quality's excellent, but it will only play my konami games! And one of the screens is actually an unfoldable castlevania map.

I too have that problem. Fortunately, I hear Capcom's coming out with their own budget DS Lite next month-- I can play Phoenix Wright again!

Sure, NOW you tell me, after I already went to Target and got one during their $24 sale!
hvnlysoldr @ Apr 1st 2007 11:58AM
Mine is totally defective! The Konami code doesn't work!

Wow how did you know? You must be like psychic or something. : |
mine broke when I got it... I turned it on and it started bleeding coke somehow.
Andrew Hsieh @ Apr 1st 2007 1:10PM
I dunno, guys! Mine plays all the games, but only has one screen -- and that's the bottom screen! It's kind of hard to play Castlevania with just that. ):
napsterking @ Apr 1st 2007 1:39PM
so is it real yes or no
Bipedal @ Apr 1st 2007 1:53PM
That you even have to ask that makes me die a little inside.
That was the weak part though.
I am stronger now.

dang don't waste your money on it, i just got mine and the touchscreen works only 50% my madcatz ds was only 50$ and worked way better!

We didn't get this over here in the UK, although interestingly Sega released a budget DS a month or so ago. It's a royal blue and Sonic's head is on the case behind the ABXY buttons.
Wolfrider @ Apr 1st 2007 2:36PM
Personally I don't like the size difference. I realize Konami had to make them smaller to fit inside their greatest hits case, but really, you practically need baby fingers to push the buttons.
joo0ey @ Apr 1st 2007 2:47PM
I bought one as well, and it broke out of the box. It wouldn't play any DS games.. ANY. I talked to the sales rep and they told me it used UMDs, whatever that is.
what a piece of junk. :/
scepia @ Apr 1st 2007 3:26PM
OK guys, let me explain. We really didn't want to go the route of multiple SKUs, but due to Nintendo's stock deal, they contacted us to make this model. Keep in mind it is "enhanced" for Konami's Best edition titles - so unless you see that red bar at the top, you are dealing with the normal version.
Tremada @ Apr 1st 2007 4:14PM
Be serious guys, is this real? (tehehe)
shadow @ Apr 1st 2007 4:26PM
wait, a $20 ds lite?
strider_mt2k @ Apr 1st 2007 4:36PM
I for one welcome our new lower-priced gaming overlords...
Jayenkai @ Apr 1st 2007 5:09PM
I too am in the UK, but the Sega Royal Blue/Sonic edition works really well, especially with games like Sonic Rush.
I'm surprised to find that Puyo Puyo doesn't work, but it's ok, 'cos my DS Lite Classic still works with that, and I can send the demo version over to the new one.
I did have a little trouble with the snakelight attachment, though. It seemed to keep falling out of the power connector, and when it did work, there were large spotlit areas on the screen, and other parts were in darkness.
strider_mt2k @ Apr 1st 2007 5:19PM
My order didn't go through at first and I was thinking "they duped me" but then I hit refresh and gave it another try and bam! -on it's way.
spinthelights @ Apr 1st 2007 10:08PM
I tried playing my old copy of New Super Mario Bros., but the standard DS cartridges were too large for it. It then caught fire.
We feasted on pheasant throughout the rest of the night, and I made many good friends. So in the end, it was a wash. I'm not sure if I was impressed by Nintendo/Konami's latest handheld, but I will say it kept me warm for a reasonable period of time.
strider_mt2k @ Apr 2nd 2007 7:56AM
You folks rock, and that's no joke.
