Nintendo quiet at GDC due to Japanese stock situation?

Before going into GDC07, we all thought Nintendo would remain relatively quiet. And, they kind of did. Miyamoto reassured us that Super Mario Galaxy would be arriving this year and even told us about a new Channel. So, it depends on how you look at it, but we consider the show to be a success here at HQ.Regardless of what we thought, many others are saying that Nintendo really didn't have a presence at the show. And these folk are pointing to the current Japanese stock situation as the reason why Nintendo didn't reveal much at the show. So what does that mean for us? Nintendo is going to stay "hush hush," for awhile. But, when you think about it, hasn't Nintendo always been kind of "hush hush?"

Maybe the reason why they were "hush hush" about revealing anything was that Miyamoto decided to talk about game development itself? You know at GDC? (you know what GDC stands for right?)

According to the article, the required "quiet period" is supposed to be done by the end of the month
Its an interesting situation, is it "illegal" for Nintendo to say anything that would raise their stock, or just "not right"?
I can understand it, though, it wouldn't be in Nintendo's interest to raise the price of their stock before a major sale, if 1.4% equaled about 557 million NOW, imagine how much Nintendo would've had to pay the JP Gvmt if they had dropped a megaton at GDC
And i suppose it wouldn't be "fair" to the seller to jack up the selling price immediately after the sale, it would suck to know if you had waited one week longer, you could've made an extra 40 million...

yes it is illegal. The regulations govering stock trading state you cannot reveal info of new products etc. You can talk about existing or prior announced products. Anything that could affect share price is to be avoided. American copies have to follow this as well as do companies in numerous other countries with stock markets.
Ever hear of insider trading? well guess what a stock split being manipulated is considered hugely major insider trading since the companies statements would affect the stock price and due to the stock split those changes have far more massive repurcisaions then at other times in a companies life. Hence the no talk about anything upcoming rule.
