Mankind ill needs a boxart such as this

So, uh ... remember that Amazon Castlevania deal that we got all excited about, and encouraged you all to take advantage of? Yeah, about that. NeoGAFfer Reilly bought a copy of Dawn of Sorrow from Amazon, and what you see above is what arrived. Konami has started their own "Konami's Best" branding, and rebranded Castlevania with the lovely new label. If you don't know what the original boxart looked like, it's the one pictured on the new box. We knew nothing of this when we sent you all to Amazon. At least there's still a fantastic game in there.
You want to know what's really sad? We kind of want one of these "Konami's Best" copies for our collection.

I just can't wait for Konami's Best Best.
Retrooo @ Mar 10th 2007 1:52PM
How absolutely bizarre. This game came out only what? a year and a half ago...? Is it really necessary to re-release it in "Best" form?

Here's an improved version for Konami to consider.

"Best of" and "Platinum/Gold Edition" boxes are the scourge of collectors everywhere.
And that is just hideous.

Design Manager: "We need a different branding for our Konami Best collection. Intern!"
Intern: "Yessir?"
Design Manager: "I'm picturing box art with a big red banner at the top, saying Konami's Best. And underneath, we'll have the box art for the original game."
Intern: "I'm on it sir!" *gets out digital camera, take a picture of the game, tosses it into the new template, rotates it slightly to look cool*
--Ten Minutes Later--
Intern: "I'm done, sir!"
Design Manager: "Fantastic work, Cecil! And in record time, too! Send it out to the printers. I'm so confident in your work, I won't bother proofing it."
Intern: "Thank you, sir!"
Design Manager: "In fact, here..." *hand Intern a $20 bill* "Go buy us some coffee and doughnuts."
Intern: "Yessir!" *runs off*
Design Manager: "I've got the best intern in the world!"
VP of Marketing: "Can we have a talk, Bob? In my office?"
Design Manager: "Is that a... pink slip in your hand?"
TO BE CONTINUED!

...so does this mean it'll be easier to find Dawn of Sorrow in stores now?
Slize Kalfer @ Mar 10th 2007 5:26PM
ROFL! I love the reference to SOTN in the title as well.
Anni @ Mar 10th 2007 5:32PM
Hahahaha, oh my God!
Check it out, guys, it's rated T for 'Twice'.
ssuk @ Mar 10th 2007 8:20PM
Yeah, it does make SOTN more avaliable now, if only they had wised up THERE WAS A LACK OF STOCK EVERYWHERE sooner, they'd be raking in more $$$ by now. Europe has been SOTN and Lost in Blue-less since a week or two after release... I swear they did only 1 print of the damn games. =/

Reminds me of putting a web cam up to a computer monitor... you can see forever!

I ordered a copy of the Portrait of Ruins and I didn't get the terrible box art at all. I feel sorry for those who got the short end of the stick on this deal.
S.A.M @ Mar 11th 2007 5:55AM
Oh! Oh no! Dear god! WHAT HAVE THE DONE!!! MY EYES!!!!!
...
Why couldn't they just ave the old Boxart with the Konmais Best Logo at the top.
Please PLEASE tell me that this sin't also the case for Portrait of ruin!

You know, I wonder if I would have boughten these if you'd told me the boxart sucked in the last post. However, now that it's too late, I find it doesn't matter too much to me. (Not to say it isn't hideous.)

The "T for twice" comment made my day!
miche1987 @ Mar 12th 2007 3:04PM
@S.A.M.:
That really *would* be the Portrait of Ruin. ;)
Davedave @ Mar 14th 2007 3:46PM
I suppose it's not a perfect solution, but you can always print your own cover to keep your shelf looking nice.

I got one of these from eStarland as well. I was suspicious at first, before doing a few web searches, a it seemed like such a crappy cover. Ahh well, it's the game that counts, really. And I really wanted the game. I can live with a crappy cover, but it still freaking sucks.
moominsean @ Mar 16th 2007 8:39AM
it's so bad, it's good.
